Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs II: Welcome to Smashville

If SJ loses, am I allowed to say it was because they've played more playoff games than Detroit in the last couple seasons?

If you're going to do that, you need to wear some tinfoil and blame NBC, the officials, and Gary Bettman, too. No reason not to half-arse it.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs II: Welcome to Smashville

So, before the game I wonder what kind of odds you could've gotten on "Only Alex Burrows scores goals for Vancouver, and the Canucks still win"

Is your roster old enough for that excuse? ;)

Besides, I give slight odds to SJ on winning this series. They figured out last year that our PK is a farce, and the Phoenipeg Jetyotes already exposed it again.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs II: Welcome to Smashville

A little bit on last nights game. I normally don’t say the better team lost, but they did. How much better? Not that much better. Clearly, Boston had their work cut out for them, and they didn’t help their cause with some of the plays that lead to two 5X3 goals. Second, their PP is still scoreless and even if they win this series, they won’t win a cup if they can’t leverage their power play. Again, credit to montreal for taking advantage of what they were given. As in the case of real life, those who know when to capitalize on what they have usually are victorious.

With all that in mind, if both teams play the same way, I expect game 7 to go to the home team. Montreal did not play well at all on even strength, and looked the worst they have all series when they didn’t have the man advantage. Where was the desperation at home down a game? I saw more fire in bostons skating than montreals.

So, I guess the NHL is taking a week and a half off before the next round? No games scheduled. ESPN sucks.

I need to know the game scheudle for VAN-SJ - can anyone help a girl out??

There won't be any Vancouver vs. San Jose games in the next week.

#5 Nashville vs. #1 Vancouver
#3 Detroit vs. #2 San Jose

And they're waiting to release the schedule until after the East is finished, though I've heard it "99% likely" that Nashville and Vancouver will start Thursday so they get a Saturday night game.

Oh duh, OK. I thought I read that it was going to be VAN-SJ next round. Hmmmm. Of course, the one night in Vancouver I cannot go to a game is Saturday. Any possibility it's Friday-Sunday? Cuz I could do either of those nights.

*winces* Root for Montreal to win so CBC has their Saturday night hockey without Vancouver?

*ducks*

During last night's Flyers game, I switched occasionally to Versus to check out the Boston-Montreal game. I found that Versus didn't have their own announcers at that game. They were showing the NESN broadcast. I guess they only have two crews? Seems strange.

And to the person on the other thread who was complaining about having Lauren Hart sing along with Kate Smith, that's been going on for several years. Lauren Hart, the daughter of former Flyers broadcaster, Gene Hart, is "The Voice of the Flyers." She sings the national anthem at every game and has been for at least 10 years. The only time she hasn't sung was when she was being treated for cancer a few years ago. But when there's a big game, they pull out the Kate Smith video, and Lauren alternates and sings along with the tape. It definitely gets the fans going.

God bless America! Let's go Flyers!

Well, Detroit will be heading home at worst with a split. Game 2 is a 3pm eastern NBC game (Noon Sunday in San Jose) And if the DRW twitter is correct, game 5 would be setting up for the same (Friday/Sunday/Wednesday????/Friday), and on top of that, would be the lead in for the Kentucky Derby. (edit: Derby is Saturday, so never mind that, I guess)

**** you, NBC. Go back to pretending that west coast hockey doesn't exist.

Noon Sunday = less time for the Wings to do physical therapy, tape up their eyeglasses, and change their Depends. Saturday is still an off day, so I fail to see why this is a big deal, other than NBC obviously wanting the Flyers and possibly Boston & Pittsburgh for the eastern viewers. Plus, Detroit played horribly in noon weekend games this year.

Flyers-Sabres was on Versus everywhere else, so it makes sense they didn't send their announcers for the Boston-Montreal game, since it wasn't the national broadcast. I can't imagine they'd send announcers for a game they were only broadcasting to 2 (?) cities.

I know "Smashville" is a reference to Nashville, but isn't that also where Douglas Murray lives? (Heck, he's probably the mayor.)

I am pretty sure that is either Smashtown or Smashpolis.

I thought it was Doc Emerick and Darren Pang for the Versus broadcast of Sabers/Flyers last night. NHLNet had the CBC feed for the Bruins/Habs game. All I know is I was listening to Pat Foley and Eddie "STOP IT RIGHT HERE!" Olczyk for the 'Hawks/'Nucks game (thanks to blackout rules).

Must be different depending on where you are. I had the Philly-Buffalo game on VS, but the NESN broadcast on a center ice channel.
