2011 NHL Playoffs: Can the goalies be stopped?

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs: Can the goalies be stopped?

Good lord. The first 5x3 occurred after a too many men on the bench penalty and the Seidenberg slash, which the ref had the choice of either calling that or the blatant trip he followed with.

The second 5x3 came from "your best player" (who ain't done squat this series) with a hit form behind and a delay of game.

Quit whining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first 5x3 I have no issue with really. Montreal should've already been up at that point. Although, a Bruin (Horton?) was clearly high sticked and it went uncalled.

The penalty on Lucic, who by the way, got the assist on the GWG in Game 5, and had a game high for shots, was an awful call. Yes, it was certainly a 2 minute penalty. A 5 is an iffy call, and the Game Misconduct is an outright joke. And how is it Spacek didn't miss a shift (other than getting cleaned up) even though his head was hit? I thought that's a mandatory 15 minutes.

The goalie interference call which negated a Bruins Power Play was called from the NEUTRAL ZONE. Price certainly sold it as well. Another Bruin was clearly hit in the face with a stick later on, and the Slashing call against Horton was just disgusting. That took away a clear breakaway. Plus Bergeron was hooked the slot, Subban punched Paille twice in the head, etc etc etc.

I am not going to make excuses, the Bruins didn't capitalize on their few PP chances to win. But to say this game was called fairly is ridiculous. Yes, Montreal got screwed early, but the refs more than made up for it.

Kerry Fraser, who reffed a few games in his career, thinks the call on Lucic was correct, FWIW. (Nice video entitled "C'mon ref" over at TSN)

The officiating was bad. Was it completely one-sided? No. I could keep a notebook of every "missed call" against Montreal and post it here, too. It more or less evens out.

Oh the call on Lucic is certainly a penalty. I'm not denying that. It's a hit from behind for sure. But a Major? Ejection?

Watch the video. Spacek see Lucic and turns his back just before Lucic hits him. Lucic's skates don't leave the ice, he's gliding into the hit, there is no intent to injure.

Yes, Lucic has a responsibility to avoid a dangerous hit. He should've. But according to the NHL rulebook, "there is also a responsibility on the player with the puck to avoid placing himself in a dangerous and vulnerable position. " Spacek CLEARLY turns towards the boards.

Hmm, reading the rules, if the ref gives a Major Penalty for Boarding, and there is injury to the head or face, it says there must be a Game Misconduct.

So I guess, by rule, if there is a Major imposed, they made the right call to throw him out. But it should have only been a minor as far as I'm concerned. If Spacek bounces up, they almost certainly do not call anything more than 2.

Julien was just talking about this in his press conference (the rule for Lucic getting bounced).

He seemed rather nonplussed...as he said, this game Montreal got the breaks, the last game they did.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs: Can the goalies be stopped?

Of course the ref has to make the call immediately. We don't need games delayed so penalties can be handed out via replay review.

Don't want to risk a penalty, don't hit from behind. Even if its just a love tap.

List of teams I'd root for rather than the Flyers:

1. SS, Wehrmarct, Luftwaffe etc.
2. Al-Qaeda
3. Irish Republican Army
4. The Purple Gang
5. The Jame Gang
6, Daleks

Here's some more.

KGB, the IRS, Al Capone's gang, Bonnie and Clyde, Manchester City, the Cybermen, the Master (last two are Doctor Who references), John Cena, and more.
