So what does Vancouver need to do to win the cup? Just curious as to what other fans think.

Vancouver's eulogy from Chicago's blog (also on PuckDaddy) Hi-larious.

You couldn’t rally the country of Canada around you in the least, and they’d get behind 13 hobos and a sloth if they thought it might bring back the Cup across the border for the first time since 1993.

Moreover, you turned a giant swath of people into rooting for a Boston team. You know how hard that is? Most outside New England consider Boston sports to be the athletic world's shingles. Singularly unpleasant. And we all became fervent fans of theirs these past two weeks. Brad Marchand(notes) is a human nut-punch, and yet we were all leaping through the air like he was when he scored (no, not leaping like that, Alex and Christian).

Fire Vigneault (which won't happen this year). Get a coach who can teach the Sedins to stop diving and play with some *ing passion in pressure situations. Luongo also has to be more consistent when it matters, but at 32, his legacy and habits might be cemented. Right now, it seems like the guy just pees himself once he gives up the first goal or two and the crowd lets him have it.

Nathan Horton is not only recovering from a concussion, but also a separated shoulder. He received that injury in Game 7 of the Tampa series when he was checked on the half boards in the first period. He later came back and went on score the winning goal.

Get some freakin' heart.

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gxiMOy9AlcE?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gxiMOy9AlcE?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>

That sums up the series right there. Not just that Marchand hit Thelma (over, and over and over again) but that NO ONE on the entire team responded. Not then, not later in the game and certainly not in Game 7. If someone tried that with a Bruin they'd be on their ass before the second punch landed, either because the punching bag himself would fight back or any one of a dozen guys on the roster would have come to his defense. Even the goalie has some grit - you think Burrows might think twice before slashing Tim Thomas again?

The finesse game works in the regular season, but welcome mats like the Sedin Sisters are not going to win the Cup.

1. Get a new coach. Failed strategy multiple years running. Change the team's culture to "old school".
2. Stop diving. Stop embellishing. Stop whining. Man up. Before, during and after the game.
3. Stop headhunting; this is not a team that should try play rockem sockem hockey.
4. Play to their strengths - speed, skill, depth.
5. Get a new captain. Trade some divers if you have to.

Spot secured at the Boylston/Clarendon St. Intersection. It was packed at 8:30 this morning. Two hours plus till it passes by here.

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

The parade has started. They are leaving the Garden now. The crowds are amazing.

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

You know what would make this parade even better?

A riot.

:D

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

It's funny the parade commentators think Boston is the only city to hold championship parades. Hell, Binghamton held one for the AHL championship.
