2011 MLB Hall of Fame Class: I have never used steroids. Period.

Elections are announced Jan 5.

First time candidates: Jeff Bagwell, Rafael Palmeiro, Larry Walker, Juan Gonzalez and Tino Martinez, among others.

Top returnees include Bert Blyleven, Roberto Alomar, Jack Morris, Barry Larkin, Edgar Martinez and Tim Raines.

It will be interesting to see what the voters think of the first steroid offender with undeniable HOF credentials (there hasn't been anyone else, has there? McGwire does not count with his 1600 hits).

Looking at the options, I think Blyleven finally gets in this year. He was only 5 votes short last time.

I think Palmeiro is left out, he may even get the treatment from voters and end up with like 5%.

Bagwell, Palmeiro, maybe on Walker.

Blyleven, Alomar, Raines, Martinez, Larkin. (Bagwell and Palmeiro are also yes' but Palmeiro will never get in)

No on Juan Gone, Tino Martinez. No on Jack Morris.

Yes on Edgar, maybe on Bagwell, no on the rest.

Cmon Bert! I hope he gets in this time. And all signs point to yes. I forget how many years of eligibility he has remaining.

Im happy to see that the White Sox got Konerko back. Should have the potential for a good lineup with Dunn, Konerko, Quinten and Rios if most of them can meet expectations. I think they still have Beckham too who hopefully will finally put together a solid season. And Juan Pierre who was near the top in the league in stolen bases. The pieces are there. Bullpen will need some work. I think they will still have at least 4 of their starters back (Burhele, Danks, Floyd and Jackson) not sure about Garcia.

An interesting thing to note is that both Dunn and Pierzynski (who I know everyone hates) both backloaded their contracts to make room to keep Konerko. I think thats fairly classy as Konerko should still have some solid years left. He did quite well last season and is a good leader on and off the field. Id like to see him retire as a White Sox (Sock?). Hopefully it doesnt turn out to hurt them finacially in a few years though...

Really? What, because of 3000 hits and 500 HR?
Has anyone ever not gotten into the hall of fame with those stats? I'd venture to say no. So that would fall into the "undeniable" category.

well...... yeah.

Everyone that has 3,000 hits and is eligible for the HOF is in it. Certainly everyone with 3,000 hits AND 500 home runs is (all what, 3 of them)? To have the power numbers of 500 home runs, plus the longevity to get 3,000 hits are undeniable HOF credentials in my book. I don't necessarily agree with "magic numbers" in principle, but those two together are pretty hard to ignore and history has shown they're generally first ballot guys.

are they going to the HOF this year? ;) this wasn't meant to be the regular MLB thread.. sorry for any confusion.

Meh. Maybe I misconstrued the word "undeniable". He undeniably has flashy career counting stats, and he was undeniably a better hitter than Jim Rice, but... I dunno, if we're ignoring the steroid issue then McGwire was a way better hitter, and he got the shaft, so I don't see how Palmeiro gets in, except for the fact that the voters are obsessed with round numbers and counting stats.

That was exactly the question posed. Do you think he will get in with those big stats but steroids hanging over him. Welcome to the thread sir. :p

Well, yes, there's that issue, but there's also the "who would you vote for?" issue. If we were ignoring steroids I would probably vote for Palmeiro, but there would be four or five position players ahead of him on my list.

Maybe Bert gets his very own Hall of Fame induction class, all by himself?
