2011 Minnesota Twins: Yoshi, Pavario, and Big Jim's Quest for 600

Re: 2011 Minnesota Twins: Yoshi, Pavario, and Big Jim's Quest for 600

They may be a few games better record wise, but it wasn't like most of the guys hurt were tearing it up before they got hurt, save Kubel.

Historical stats show that Span, Morneau, Young and Mauer typically gave more than they had and probably would have figured it out. Heck, look at Yoshi now compared to before the injury and Mauer's average is slowly creeping up as well.

And that doesn't change the fact the AAA guys were performing better and the team had a better record with them playing vs the regulars.

The fact is the historical averages for the players that have missed significant playing time this year (Kubel, Span, Mauer, Morneau and Young to begin with) are better than what the replacements have provided this year including Butera, Tolbert, Rivera, Tosoni, Plouffe and Repko. The only non-regular with significant ABs you can claim is contributing would be Hughes, while Cuddyer is the only player with regular playing time that anyone can say is providing solid numbers. However hopefully Valencia and Mauer are on their way back.

More importantly Kubel, Span, Mauer, Morneau, Nishioka and Young all have better averages than every replacement player named (except Repko) this year alone despite not one of them having been healthy. Not only has their projected starting lineup only been complete for nary a handful of games, but it is factually bogus to claim the replacements have better numbers. To suggest the games missed hasn't been significant is missing the forest for the trees.

Revere has been fairly solid as well, might I add.

Fine.
Revere has played quite well, so has Hughes, Repko has been ok.
The numbers may not be as good as I remember, but the record was certainly better with the replacements.
The majority of the season has been poor and the injuries are an excuse, especially for how poor the starting staff was the first couple months considering no one was hurt there.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Twins: Yoshi, Pavario, and Big Jim's Quest for 600

The numbers may not be as good as I remember, but the record was certainly better with the replacements.

Only 3 players have played in more than 56 games out of 87 therefore the vast majority of their games have seen significant playing time taken up by replacements. Also the biggest reason for the winning ways of late came from improved starting pitching, not solid offensive contributions from the call ups.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not dogging the replacements and very much appreciate their efforts, but if their record can't be blamed on injuries (Span has missed 31 games, Morneau and Young 32, Kubel 35, Mauer 48 and Thome has only appeared in 39) then it has to fall on the players getting most of the playing time, especially when you consider 4 of the top 6 batting averages from players with more than a handful of AB belong to Kubel, Span, Young and Mauer, meanwhile Butera, Tolbert, Tosoni, Plouffe and Rivera have the 5 worst averages for players significant AB.

Not only does AJ score the winning run but Crain gets the win.
Yuck.
Bullpen strikes again.

Good to see the Twins not letting yesterdays blip get them down.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Twins: Yoshi, Pavario, and Big Jim's Quest for 600

Revere is definitely not a five tool player. He could probably run the ball to third faster.....

PERK!

I really dislike Burnett

Re: 2011 Minnesota Twins: Yoshi, Pavario, and Big Jim's Quest for 600

Young and Plouffe activated. The Rene's sent back to Rochester.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Twins: Yoshi, Pavario, and Big Jim's Quest for 600

6.5 games out of 1st with 73 to play. Considering where we were, I would of been happy if we had made it to 10 games back (and said so earlier). The two weeks after the All-Star break will tell us a lot.

KC, Cle, Det all at Target Field.

This morning on SportCenter, they asked Kruk about who he thinks is the one team making a move in the 2nd half. His answer? The Chicago White Sux!

A move as in up the standings or a trade? Unfortunately, the Twins don't have a stellar track record for second half additions to the roster.

Move up in the standings because he said Dunn will pick it up. He is just going (admittedly) with his preseason pick.
