2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

I've been waiting for the perfect time for my "shock and awe" version of "I told you so" on where Lucia was taking this team but this program is so far beyond the point of pathetic it would be like beating up Sue fans….sure it's fun for a while but then you realize how unfair it is and then just start to feel bad...I know all my fans were waiting for a triumphant return to the forum but I’m afraid my heart is just not in it. I don’t think it’s possible for me to care any less about this team right now.

well that's just a darn shame... the goofer fan-base could use more internet tough guys like yourself.

If fans take after their team, Gopher fans certainly can't beat up Sioux fans.

As far as you know we missed you too, Sparky.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

I talked to a guy last night who knows the Bjustad family and he said Florida is pushing hard for him to leave. The guys said it wasn't because of Lucia, it was because they wanted him on the smaller ice. It sounds like nick really does like College so it will be a hard decision.

I racall UM had drafted plans and came up with cost estimates for converting to smaller ice and Lucia supported those plans. So why is it that those plans were never implemented?

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

I'll admit it. I'm not that sad that Ness is gone. Sure, he could move the puck here and there, but cripes he was exposed a lot. Plus, his final game in the sweater will forever leave a bad taste.

Not gonna miss Ness much, won't miss Wehrs at all.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Aaron Ness coming out of HS was the classic version of a rag doll defenseman that bigger forwards loved to toss around for photo ops. This season he had more bulk on his frame, played more solid D, moved the puck well, started to find his offensive niche, and was more confident to use the body.

There's no doubt he struggled at times positioning himself properly as a defender. But overall, I thought Aaron Ness had a good season and progressed in every facet of his game. I suspect we would have seen much more offensive skill and leadership from him had he stayed another year. His experience and skills will be missed. I think he's got a long way to go though before he sniffs any NHL time. Good luck Aaron.

Did you actually read this article? It says in one of the first lines that he's not...but... Plus he's a politician so what do you expect?

Exactly. He's a politician and therefore is lying about not having jumped off the bandwagon.

I agree with your assessment. I think MN will miss Aaron a lot next year, given all the scoring that is already leaving. His size will likely make it tough to make the next jump, but he could do the job defensively in college. Some people just saw him getting out-muscled once in awhile and think that means he isn't a good D. But he was very smart positionally and rarely got himself into trouble. He was very good at avoiding situations where strength mattered.

Offensively, this was the first year he started to show confidence in carrying the puck and contributing to scoring chances. He showed a lot of poise in many of the games and I think he might have had a big increase in his assist total if he had stayed. We will never know what we are missing, but I feel strongly that losing him his a bigger loss than many above seem to think. After all, it is not like the Gophs sat a bunch of D this year who were better than Ness and Wehrs who can now step in.

Good luck Aaron.
