The announcers were dumbarses then. "They may have started the clock before the snap?" Doesn't matter! Sheesh, I rarely watch college football, and I even was pretty sure I knew the rule.

I think they misspoke as when they were showing the replay they specifically said to watch the officials hand.

But, yes, I did hear (Musburger?) ask if they started the clock before the snap.

Why bother spiking the ball? Just line up and run a play. Happy the Ducks won their first Rose Bowl since 1917. (my uncle is a big fan and he bought me a Ducks hat) so I gotta root for them.
