2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

NDSU game was fun to watch for awhile. Those fans in Fargo are great!

Friday night. Mount Union (OH) vs. Wisconsin-Whitewater for the 7th straight year.

Whitewater won their 3rd straight title and wins the 7 game series 4-3.
Pitt State wins the D2 title, their 2nd D2 title and 4th overall with 2 NAIA titles.
Rajun Cajun fans were REALLY excited to win the New Orleans Bowl.

And in signs that there is too much time off before bowl games, Florida State had two guys arrested this week, both morons.

First, backup CB Avis Commack watched another student leave the computer lab while leaving his backpack, took the IPad out of his bag and signed into FSU's wireless network under his own name. The obvious then occurred when the other student came back.

The dumb thing is that part of the "bowl swag" for the Champs Sports Bowl includes a $500 gift card to Best Buy. So, he could have just farking bought himself one in a week.

Today, redshirt freshman linebacker Arrington Jenkins took a motorcycle off the side of the road and moved it 1/10 of a mile (or about 100 more yards than FSU needed to beat Florida) to his place. The police followed the tracks there. When the police questioned him, he allegedly said

"Anyone who leaves a motorcycle out in the open should expect to have it stolen."

....yeah. And it's not after the BCS title game, so no Fulmer Cup points are awarded.

Other schools play D3. Those two play D2.5

if there was ever an argument for promotion and relegation... these two are part of how the D1 hockey schools in D3 were nearly shivved by middlebury

Ohio State penalties have been leaked.

9 scholarships over 3 years, probation until 2013, and a 1 year postseason ban. I imagine they wish they had stayed home like Miami this year for that. Tressel with the unsurprising show cause.

How come the NCAA didn't add an extra year to USC? :D

Just one fan's viewpoint, but for me the answer is clearly yes. Missing this year's bowl season would take something away from the actual violators, and would bring closure sooner. As an impacted fan, the 2012 ban is worse in both respects.

And yet, it's hard to second guess the OSU powers-that-be on this one. Who's to say that sitting out this year would have precluded the 2012 ban? The pain of the 2012 ban is greater, which may have been part of the NCAA's calculus. It's pure speculation, but I have to wonder if the NCAA didn't drag its feet just a little -- precisely to prevent the 2011 bowl game from being part of the sanctions.

Don't look now, but TCU is doing all they can to keep LA Tech in the Poinsettia Bowl.

There's a football game on? I'm getting Lou Holtz going to prom with his daughter and taking her door off the hinges and the sideline reporter getting sent out to a treehouse to sleep at night when she was bad.

It's like ESPN wants to show how many people *worse* than Craig James they have doing football games.

Paul Chryst will be the new coach at Pitt according to my phone.

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

Enjoy that jet sweep, Pitt!

In all seriousness, I really really hope Chryst does well.

I'm conflicted*.

On one hand, I think its a shame because I appreciate what he's been able to do with the UW offense in the last few seasons.

On the other hand, I can't erase that awful ****ing Rose Bowl loss to TCU out of my brain. He had one of the best power running teams UW has seen (and for a program that had Ron Dayne's junior and senior seasons in its record books, that's saying something). Then for 3 1/2 quarters against TCU he tries to call a game filled with trap runs and zone blocking. The only way he could have done a bigger 180 on the identity of the offense would've been to go with a spread passing game. I'm not sure how he'll top it this year, maybe he'll abandon Russell Wilson's success with play action and start having him do the triple option.

* I usually am with UW football. Conflicted and unreasonably bitter, on account of how obnoxious it is the way that program overshadows everything else on campus. And not just hockey. My brother-in-law graduated last weekend, you want to guess how many times the Rose Bowl game against Oregon got mentioned during commencement? Ugh...

Iowa RB Marcus Coker suspended for Insight Bowl.

And the Iowa running back position continues to be a nightmare from a disciplinary standpoint.:(

The Flood Warning for San Diego is no longer in affect now that Lou Holtz has left town.
