Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

In The Game, Harvard is demonstrating its superiority over Yale 38-7 with 12 minutes left

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

UHN wins back the musket and will be in the FCS playoffs; Towson is the CAA Champion. Selection show is tomorrow morning @10AM on ESPNU. Towson and Old Dominion will probably get byes then go on the road in the 2nd round. UHN and Maine should host 1st round games.

I wouldn't count on UNH hosting anything. They've had better teams and better finishes than this and the NCAA found a way to screw them out of a home playoff game. Good game today though. Maine probably wins it if they didn't self destruct with all the turnovers in the second half.

They both should host. Everyone around them in the GPI lost - Indiana State, Illinois State and Youngstown. Maine, UHN and Towson could all end up getting byes with Towson getting a home game in the second while Maine and UHN go on the road. Neither team should fall low enough to be ranked 17-20...but the NCAA doesn't always follow the rankings when assigning home games...

Clemson is getting run right out of the state by NC State. 38-7.

Ya, well should and the NCAA hardly go hand in hand. There were times during the Santos/Ball years that UNH was well in the top ten and would have had a guaranteed 14 or 15 thousand for the game and they lost it to some school that had a bigger/nicer stadium and they played in front of 3000. This is all about the NCAA selling itself and Cowell stadium is hardly a marketing man's dream.

SEC vs. the Mighty Southern Conference today.
Let me guess. If the SEC beats them all 77-0, that proves what a weak schedule the SEC plays, but if the SEC barely squeaks by them, that just proves that the SEC isn't that good, right?

Uh yeah. Scheduling 1-AA in November *should* be a no win scenario. At least that crap in September can be excused as a "preseason in the regular season."

If the NCAA goes by the GPI, Maine and New Hampshire should both get byes. Indiana State and Youngstown State lost and are ineligible and Illinois State lost at home. So the final byes will be 2 of these 4: UHN (14), Maine (10), ODU (15) and Ill State (12). The NCAA will want to give ODU a home game because they average ~20K/game. Ill State averages ~10K vs UHN (7200) and Maine (4800). So both Maine and UHN should get byes. I expect both to have very tough road second round games (Maine @ Montana or Northern Iowa, UHN @ App State or Wofford)

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

They might as well since apparently a lot of people in this thread want there to be an extra penalty for losing to a team that is too good.

I'm curious...what "extra" penalty? And who proposed it?

I've suggested that maybe a team that had a lousy offense, missed 4 FG's and lost at home shouldn't be the top one-loss team. How exactly is that an "extra" penalty?

Alabama and Oregon lost to a team that was too good, so they can't possibly play for a national title. It's better to lose to someone that has no hope of playing for the title like Texas Tech.

Uh no...they lost to #1 LSU already. Why do they deserve a rematch ahead of Oklahoma, State or any of the other 1-loss teams?

IF Oklahoma wins out, they'll probably finish with 4 wins over top 25 teams. Alabama will finish with two. Oklahoma State will have 3 if they win out.

Why is the one loss the most important thing as opposed to the overall resume? We use the resume as an excuse to keep a Boise/TCU/Houston out. It's suddenly not important when we get down to BCS conferences?

1. Winning
2. Sufficient resume
3. No bad losses

Why is this so hard to figure out? Nobody is questioning OU's resume, but they have a bad loss, and that's unacceptable. Alabama and Oregon have sufficient resumes, and their losses are significantly better (so far, USC-Oregon pending) than OU's.
