Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

Going to be a hell of a Monday for Bielema getting asked about those timeouts.
I could see that first timeout on 2nd and 21. But the next one after MSU picked up 12-13 yards? Seemed way too risky bordering on foolish at the time, especially considering you're guaranteed of a possession in OT in college.

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

What's truly disappointing about this for Wisconsin is Michigan State will promptly lose their next two games, making this loss hurt even more.

Yup. My thoughts exactly. First timeout was fine, second pretty questionable.

Lots of other stuff to second guess if one wants to get deeper into it. If you're going to put a WR in to defend a Hail Mary, why not the 6'4" Toon?

Oh well. Loss to Stanford in the Rose Bowl here we come.

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

Bielema called timeout because it's what the card told him to do. It also told him to pass against TCU all the time.

Tool.

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

I was looking through Red colored glasses, but I saw the ball pulled back by Taylor before it could cross. I stand by that I don't think it was a good call, but I'm not mad because it was horse **** play that put the Badgers in that hole to begin with.

It was close, but when the back-up QB turns his shoulder, the ball crosses the plane. It shouldn't have got to that point though. Let State run the clock out and play for OT.

I'm actually a little surprised that Wisconsin didn't go for two after the TD made it 31-30.

Oklahoma/Texas Tech in a weather delay...

Maybe it's just because these delays are occuring in "National" level games, but I can't for the life of me remember more than a few games that had weather delays before this year... Now it seems to be a weekly thing... Anyone have any insight into this? Has the NCAA issued a point of emphasis on Lightning Safety or something?
I've been two college games before where they've been called off, and hell, now that I think about it, had one game in HS delayed till the next day because of lightning. Weather delays suck balls, especially in November, especially when its just warm enough for it to not be snow.

If it's 10 second left - yeah, go for two if you're a gamer.
With 1:50, the risk isn't worth it. If you lose the gamble you've just given the other team a 1-point gift - and with a single first-down they ice the game. Granted, State went three-and-out the last 3 possessions, but stopping a 2-pt. conversions breaths life into them.

Oh I know. I wasn't saying it would have been a good call. In fact, on the road you always take the tie and play for OT. Just saying they way Bielema call games sometimes, it wouldn't have surprised me.

This has solidified my Mr. Obvious complex.
Shoot me.

You mean loss to Oregon. Stanford will be playing the next week in the Big Easy! (I hope!)

I hate to have to like Wisconsin losing, but for us to climb from #8 in the BCS, undefeated teams need to lose. Here's hoping TT keeps it up!

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

OK, so one of Alabama/LSU has to lose. With OU about to go down, Oklahoma State might be in the driver's seat for a BCS title game appearance.

TT putting up 41? Did Mike Leach bonk Tuberville on the head and take over? :D

Hell, right now the SEC title game is the closest D1-A has to a playoff. Everybody else has to make it there on style points.

LSU and Alabama are both in the same division so they can't meet in the title game...they will meet in the regular season though.

Now that OU's out, here's hoping everyone except Boise St. and Stanford ends with a loss or two...

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

So what's the story with wisconsin timeouts? I was at a wedding.

MSU has ball on their own 45 with about a minute left. Fumbles, loses about 12 yards, Wisconsin calls timeout before 2nd and 22, figuring MSU won't convert. Makes sense. MSU completes pass for about 16 yards. Wisconsin inexplicably calls timeout again before 3rd and 6. MSU comes out after timeout, completes shovel pass for 10 yards and a first down at Wisconsin's 40ish with 40 seconds and 2 TO's left of their own. Whoops.

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

The timeouts thing is being overblown...if Wisconsin hadn't called it, Michigan State could have. Not sure that they would have considering it was 3rd down. Had Wisconsin's D come up with the stop and forced a punt, that decision looks great in hindsight. When OK State loses to Oklahoma or TT, Stanford loses to Oregon and Clemson loses to someone in the ACC, we'll have people in a certain geographic area of the country screaming from the mountaintops for an LSU-Alabama rematch in the BCS title game (Never mind that Boise is likely to still be undefeated). Boise will have to settle for Tostitos...

MSU wasn't going to call TO, they were going to settle with running the clock out and going to OT.

This is the second time that he's done something stupid with timeouts at MSU. Three years ago MSU was down 24-22 with the clock running rushing the field goal team on. What does Bielema do? Calls timeout with 12 seconds left, allowing MSU time to set up normally. Kick is good, MSU wins 25-24.
