2011-12 NCHA Thread

I believe you are correct on the shots, and yes Saturday the score could have been much higher than it ended up, I also am looking forward to this season of NCHA Hockey.

Im also curious as to what the NCHA will look like in February. Earlier I felt anyone except CSS could win the league, but after taking a point from UWA they are in the conversation too ... as of right now anyway.

Re: 2011-12 NCHA Thread

Shocking result last night, but the Knights, or I should say Ryd, showed why they are tough to beat with a third period rally!

Re: 2011-12 NCHA Thread

Unbelievable game!! I don't think I believe it happened, almost like I'll wake up soon and will all be a dream. First period SNC outshot UWRF 20-9, amazing it wasn't 5-0 after one. Even second period and than that early goal for SNC in the third made it 4-0. After that, the Falcons were suddenly dominate pounding the Green Knights with everything they had, while the Green Knights took dumb penalties leading to three PP goals to go up 5-4. Than Cody Keefer pulled off the magic he always does with an amazingly beautiful deflection to tie it at five. Great overtime period including killing off a penalty by UWRF and than after the buzzer things got interesting. Both teams exchanged blows after the buzzer and than for some reason the officials let the two teams shake hands and it nearly turned into a full team brawl if not for the UWRF coaches getting in the middle immediately. Great night, unbelievable finish with a disappointing end after the buzzer.

Re: 2011-12 NCHA Thread

is UWRF that good? or are the teams they have played not as good as everyone expected them to be? beating #4 Hamline and #3 St Norberts? I've been hearing a lot about them lately...

We have a pretty good squad up here this year. Solid goaltending, good team speed and great puck movement has led to a deadly power play early. Probably would have seen a few more goals this weekend with a cleaner game and better officiating, but can't complain about 3 out of 4 points. Obviously the power play will come and go throughout the year (13-39 first three weekends; 2-12 this weekend) but if the Falcons continue to play like this they should be right there at the end of the season.

Also this team is 6-0-2 at home, first road test comes Dec 2-3 at Superior. The Falcons have just 6 home games left the rest of the way including 1 true series Jan 13-14 vs. Stout.

I am not aware of any poll that had Hamline ranked 4th in the nation this season. Did I miss something?

River played well vs SNC at home, taking three of four points.
Will be interesting to see how River performs in their remaining NCHA scheduled games: Five @ home, nine on the road.
Meanwhile, SNC has a total of 12 NCHA games left: eight @ home, just four on the road.

Re: 2011-12 NCHA Thread

Falcons had a couple games to start the season with weaker teams and begin the the unbeaten streak. Knights were a good test and they matched up well and you started to notice River Falls and the games against SP were not blow outs Pointers did very well, but still about match ups and Brossman`s heroics saved the game. The weekend against Superior will give a better idea of Falcons strength. Not how anyone starts but how they end

That is what I like about this league so close every game anyone can beat anyone you just don`t see this in the other leagues so many strong teams from top to bottom. Other leagues you see some forward scoring 90 points not sure if they were in the NCHA if they could pull that off.

I was surprised not to see the defenseman from Caly, Brady Horn, not in the line up so I checked the roster and he is not listed so i assume he isn`t at River Falls anymore. Haven`t checked other rosters in the league yet. Anyone know?. He was All-everything as a freshman and by far their best D man the last two years, a huge loss for Falcons with his speed, size and shot . Freeman has always seemed to have latest greatest as a first year player then in comes the next latest greatest.

When I take a quick look at the league standings over the past 5 years......the NCHA doesn't differ a whole lot from other conferences. One or two teams close at the top .800 ......3-4 ......in the middle .500 or better......... and 1 or 2 doormats.

Many conferences enjoy rivalries and when the season shakes down the standings often mirror those of the NCHA.

Yeah, but their doormats have the talent to take games from the top NCHA teams. Take a look at SSC's results from last year. They were not exactly getting blown out by the other NCHA teams.
