2011-12 Minnesota Season Thread (Pride On Ice Returns!)

Re: 2011-12 Minnesota Season Thread (Pride On Ice Returns!)

He's apparently not a top 12 forward on the squad. It happens. Who do you want to sit so he can play?

That's kind of it. I really like the way the 4th line has played. Serratore and Larson have both played their roles really well, and I think it's obvious the coaching staff is happy with the way Boyd has been playing (as they should be).

I wouldn't be surprised if Nico finds his way into the lineup this coming weekend. If not him, maybe Isackson. I could see keeping the same line combos as last night but sitting Ambroz a game to get one of those two into the line-up for a game.

It's nice to have a guy with Nico's experience waiting in the wings for when an injury or two forces a shuffle in the line-up, but it would be good to get Sacchetti some game time so he is a bit more prepared when that time comes. Even though he is a senior, there is still a loss in edge (cue jokes about Nico not having an edge to lose) that accompanies an extended period of only training and not getting into any competitive situations. This weekend is a good opportunity to put him into one of those situations.

Although Boyd has played fairly well if I had to choose it would be him, but right now I would not change anything - just asking how it is that he slipped out of the top 12

Boyd? No way, I would sit Ambroz over him and it's not even close.

Re: 2011-12 Minnesota Season Thread (Pride On Ice Returns!)

If it's a tweet it's out for public view - or are you saying you actually don't know what it said?

His twitter is on private so it isn't "public" per se. I'm paraphrasing it but it was essentially that he was happy for the guys after their sweep of UND but could never be happy for the guy at the top (a negative term being used for the man at the top).

Needless to say, he looks like a d o u c h e.

Naw you have to keep Seth in there for his size - He might not be the smartest player out there at times, but 6'3" 210 and will to mix it up is not something you can replace.

Re: 2011-12 Minnesota Season Thread (Pride On Ice Returns!)

Boyd is the youngest kid on the team and has played well in his role. Especially on the PK. He got bumped up in the lineup for a reason. I definitely would not sit him.

NO ONE is suggesting he should be sat I was just curious as to how Nico lost his top 12 spot and of all the new freshmen, Boyd is IMHO the weakest freshmen forward out there. I just wanted to know why Nico lost it.

Re: 2011-12 Minnesota Season Thread (Pride On Ice Returns!)

Weakest based on what? Quite frankly, he's done more positive things for the team than Ambroz has to this point. Outside of the first Sacred Heart game, Ambroz has 1 assist and a bunch of bad penalties. Yes, he has size and does throw his weight around. But he has been more of a liability than any of the guys getting consistent playing time.

Boyd has 5 assists (playing mostly 4th line duty) and plays very good on the PK. He's a good two way player that is smart.

Who said what about who now?

Yeah, who is Kahn? (Maybe I should be able to figure it out, but I just returned from my first hockey game of the year and feel like my heart exploded about 5 minutes into the game and still feel like I haven't gotten any O2 to the brain.)

Alex Kangas, dubbed Kangas Khan during his time here, apparently ripped tDon. Dunno what exactly was said, but it wasn't pleasant.

Thanks. should have picked that up. Maybe a little Patterson Jealousy? I have a friend who played for Brooks and didn't like him while he played for him, but liked him afterwards. Whatever! seems like most players are having fun.

I'm guessing that he might have not liked tDon's coaching style, which would be hard-arse a la Mike G. Just a wild guess though.

outside of rau, boyd might be the freshman that has performed best so far this season. he wont be sitting anytime soon, nor should he.

Re: 2011-12 Minnesota Season Thread (Pride On Ice Returns!)

Remember Gino Guyer's senior season when night-in and night-out he was the hardest working player on the ice but could not score a goal to save his life? He did everything but score. Put it off the goalpost, goalie would make miraculous save after save, the puck would take a weird bounce and not go in, etc.

I'm starting to have that feeling about Taylor Matson. That poor kid is as snakebit as they come right now. Would love to see him get a goal this weekend.

That's crazy talk. Boyd has been fantastic this year.

Re: 2011-12 Minnesota Season Thread (Pride On Ice Returns!)

Yeah, I'm not really sure how this has been a conversation. If Sachetti deserved to be in the lineup, he would be. Obviously the freshmen are showing the coaches something that Sachetti has not. You can't be seriously be disappointed about that based on how disappointing he has been through his first three years at the U..?

Re: 2011-12 Minnesota Season Thread (Pride On Ice Returns!)

Guys, he didnt say Boyd should sit he seems to be saying if someone was going to sit for Nico it would be Boyd in his opinion. (I disagree) His reasoning is that he prefers the big guy like Ambroz in the lineup for various reasons. I don't think that is as controversial as you guys are making it ;)
