2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Poop.

Because the refs want Philly to win.
Better disallow that Chicago goal, then.

And that was a penalty because that's how the refs have been calling that all playoffs long (and it goes back beyond this year). Touch the goalie at your own risk. Alternately, throw players into your own goalie - you might get a power play out of it.

Another soft goal. as Healey said in Game 1 -- first save wins!

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

That's embarrassing. That's the kind of call that should end a referee's season if it happened in an early playoff round. The fact that it happened in the Finals? Unacceptable.

Sharp doesn't care. 2-2.

This is approaching NBA-esque calls.

Yeah. Tell that to Jaroslav Halak.

There's no way that call has been made all playoffs. There would be 5-6 goaltender interference calls per game if that was the case.

Fair enough, as I haven't been able to watch anything but the Bruins games until the Finals. I did see it a few times in the Bruins series, going both for and against the Bruins. It's probably not called every time (what is?), but it's called far more often than you'd think.

I tend to give the benefit of the doubt to the ref (I also don't buy into the conspiracy theories). He has a far different angle than us, and doesn't have the benefit of replay. From behind the net, I can see that being called goalie interference.

They've been changing the goalie interference rule game to game. I've seen penalties go both ways in the same series from a defender shoving an offensive guy into his own goalie, and I've seen it not called.

Bill Pritchard has my dream job.

Maybe this is a better explanation. There's no consistency to the rule, so we shouldn't try to figure out why it is called or not called.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

So, does the Cup need to breathe or something? There's no reason for them to take it out of its case in the 2nd period of a tie game. Stop tempting fate!!

It's all part of Bettman's diabolical plan to give this game to Philly and guarantee a Game 7.

Letting Chicago take the lead is part of that conspiracy, too.

...somehow.

I don't buy conspiracy theories either. I simply think he blew the call....very, very badly.

Oh, that's so Philly can tie it up on a bad call against Chicago or something. :)

I don't disagree with you, but I just don't think anyone should be surprised by that. If one was bored enough, one could find a post by me from the Bruins/Sabres series where I question Buffalo being called for the same thing. There's no consistency in regards to goalie contact, and from what I've seen, the refs are more likely to protect the goalie.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

There is no consistency in reffing in the NHL today for any call. The two worst: goaltender interference and the puck hitting a skate.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Patrick Kane is the best player on the ice tonight.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Bad reffing ain't going to matter tonight, unless the Flyers are holding something back right now. The 'Hawks are all over them.
