Aparch, the reason Lydman got signed and Oystrick was bought out is very simple.
Lydman - Good NHL defenseman
Oystrick - Good AHL defenseman
Buffalo screwed
Uh oh, we have a potential challenger to craziest signing...how about Jokinen back to Calgary, where he bombed out in spetacular fashion?

Lou is waiting until he's a bit older so he can give him more money.Tangentially related: How is it that Satan has yet to play for New Jersey?
Less expensive than Paul Martin but older and not an offensive replacement. Nice player and better defensively but who is going to move the puck? Andy Greene I guess.Tallinder, NJ, 4 yrs/13.5M

Back on the Boogaard contract:
Like some others on this board, I'm a closet Boogaard fan. I know he's mostly a useless ogre who may have been sired by a moose, but he was OUR useless ogre who may have been sired by a moose!
The real shame about it is that he had more than his fair share of opportunities to develop his hands in practice. He got a lot of workouts in practice working the low slot on power plays, the thinking being he could learn to put that monstrous frame of his to good use, but just never got the hands for it. He could have really filled a niche if he was able to do that.
Of course, Georges Laraque is out of the league now, and he had WAY better hands than Boogaard. So Boogey should consider himself lucky to have a job at all, I suppose.
Boogie is and was a waste of space, and I could not be happier the Wild will not have him on their bench. He sucked and no amount of cool fights makes up for that...NONE!
The only way I'll accept this contract is if Boogaard ends Malkin or Crosby's season with a clean open-ice check in the Rangers first meeting with the Penguins this seaosn.
