2010 NCAA Lax Tournament: Blackmail 7-7 Hopkins Style

Re: 2010 NCAA Lax Tournament: Blackmail 7-7 Hopkins Style

Flipping through, I saw the end of the Delaware-UNC game...Was rooting for overtime just for the excitement. Delaware went to the same thing after both timeouts, the second time it was covered...would have been more interesting if they could have recovered and set something up vs. having the turnover.

Nice!

That's too bad; I usually root for Syracuse in the tourney.

Can someone recap who's left?
You've got #1 overall seed Virginia (have you heard that something bad happened there a few weeks ago? I don't think ESPN mentioned it) taking on #8 Stony Brook, but on Long Island because Stony Brook is the host of one of the regionals. Stony Brook has the NCAA's two top scorers in junior midfielder Kevin Crowley and senior attacker Tom Compitello. In the other game at that regional, #7 Cornell take on Army, who knocked off Syracuse last night. Cornell beat Army 12-11 in overtime earlier in the season.

In the other regional, #3 Maryland will take on <strike>hosts #6 Princeton</strike> Notre Dame, who upset Princeton yesterday afternoon. ACC rivals #4 Duke and #5 UNC, perhaps better known for basketball, will meet in the other game. Duke crushed Hopkins in the tournament's opening game, while UNC played a close game with Delaware. Duke also boasts two of the NCAA's top scorers, seniors Ned Crotty and Max Quinzani.

StonyBrook and Denver really battled, but in the end, Crowley and Compitello were too much for the Pioneers to hold off.

Interesting that the Stony Brook vs Denver game had the highest attendance in the first round at over 4,200 fans.

The Duke crowd looked pretty mediocre on TV.

Well Cornell once again has an unexpected matchup in the quarters and avoids playing a juggernaut. I can only hope this goes better than the Bemdji State debacle 2 years ago.

The two-time defending champions and the #2 seed in the tournament go down in the first round in double overtime to a service academy no less and there isn't a sniff of it on Sportscenter?

Instead all we continue to hear about is what happened at Virginia and see a couple highlights on top plays from the Stony Brook and Cornell games.

I feel really bad about not going out to Stony Brook but I've got a softball game Sunday afternoon. Let's go Red!

Re: 2010 NCAA Lax Tournament: Blackmail 7-7 Hopkins Style

Wow, the Army fighting the Red menace once again. ;)

Actually, looks like I'll be rooting for the winner of that game to go all the way. Don't really care for any of the other teams left.

Still remember being at the game in Ithaca in 2004 where we lost 6-5. It would be nice to get some revenge this time around. Not a big lacrosse fan but from what I understand this team is already playing beyond what was expected entering this year.

Wasn't that Navy?

Wasn't that Navy?

Was that the same Navy team that Syracuse beat in the NC and were considered "the bad guys" since they were going up against America's sentimental favorite?

It was an outstanding game I remmember though.

The Irish knocked off Maryland and will head to Baltimore to play the winner of tomorrow's Cornell-Army game.
