2010 National Championship DVD

Re: 2010 National Championship DVD

One would think that it would be enough for the UMD program (which is a member of the NCAA) to just agree to buy any unsold copies of the initial minimum 25 DVD order. The NCAA could then manufacture the DVDs, sell them through the normal channels, and after a set period of time (6 months?) any copies < 25 sold could be bought by UMD. I can't imagine that being more than a handful or so if UMD posted a link to the NCAA order page on their site.

Maybe there are just too many rule-making bodies involved for anything to be so simple.

Re: 2010 National Championship DVD

Miller also sent me an email about this last week:
For anyone interested, there is a new international web site for women's hockey.

www.winih.com

enjoy, xo

Finally getting around to posting it!

Winnih has been around for a couple of years...
They did a nice feature on The Greatest One prior to the Olympics. Elizabeth Etue who runs the site does a great job with her international coverage. We hope to work with her in the future on further promoting the Women's Game.

Re: 2010 National Championship DVD

I was in Ridder that day and lived through all four physically and emotionally draining hours of play -- and that was from the stands! The game is indeliably etched in my memory, so I don't need to watch a video recreation. Hopefully, the team will be fortunate enough to have another shot at the prize in 2010-11.

Re: 2010 National Championship DVD

The silence from the Cornell fans is deafening!
I think that is understandable. I doubt too many UMD fans are after a copy of the 2007 final. Granted, 2010 produced a better game, but one sour note at the end kind of ruins the impact of the whole symphony. Do Harvard fans still watch the 2003 final? My thought is that a loss in a classic still feels like a loss, and a fan doesn't want to be constantly reminded of it.

I understand and agree with your comments...they're just common sense, no disrespect to you, but I think it falls short of taking the situation to its logical conclusion.

There are two points that form the premise from which my comment was made. Firstly, if I was on that team or had a daughter on that team I'd be proud as hell at how they (Cornell) played in what is likely the most memorable and possibly the best Frozen Four Final to date. There were no losers on the ice that day. I have to imagine that that has done wonders for the women's game by sparking interest in young girls, especially in the USA, since I understand that it was televised nationally in the USA. The effort they put forth and the performance they treated viewers to will have played a big part in growing interest in the game...they were a part of that...it's bigger than just them.

Secondly, not having a history of making it to the dance, you'd realistically have to ask yourself if you'll get back there as a player or as a parent/relative of a player in the next 3 years (at most). Even if your team did have a history of making it to the Frozen Four that's no guarantee for the future. Either way, wouldn't you want a "professionally" and knowledgeably commentated copy of the broadcast of that memorable game to reflect back on to show your kids or grandchildren or friends and neighbours who couldn't attend and would really want to see it?

I know I would and 25 bucks wouldn't change my mind.

Re: 2010 National Championship DVD

You could always complain to the NCAA. My whole beef with them is it would be very easy to take pre-orders that they know are legitimate if they ask for credit card info when the pre-order is made. If they don't get 25 pre-orders and DVDs are never made, the person's credit card isn't charged. And if they do get 25 pre-orders, they have the billing and shipping info already and can go ahead and make the DVDs and send them out. It's not rocket science.

I hate the NCAA sometimes.

I dunno - I have a copy of the Minny - UNH semi from a few years back (remember the Bobbi Ross show?) I watch it from time to time when I'm trapped on my cycle trainer during the winter. I still think UNH is going to pull it out at the end;)

Re: 2010 National Championship DVD

Was just checking my TV schedule for tonight an found out that CBS College Sports network is replaying the 2009 NCAA-W F4 Final tonight, 730-10p, CDT. Here is the details on Charter Cable:
Women's College Hockey
Episode: NCAA Frozen Four Championship: Cornell vs. Minnesota-Duluth (First Aired: March 21, 2010)
From Minneapolis, Minn.
7:30 - 10:00 PM CBSCS (412)
If you can get CBSCS, record the game and forget the NCAA!! :D

Re: 2010 National Championship DVD

I'm nominating you for Man of the Week! Thanks for the info. I wish I got CBS College Sports channel, but I don't. But.............if anyone was to record it on DVD, I can make copies pretty easily and I have nothing but time on my hands to get it done. I'm just saying...

Re: 2010 National Championship DVD

For anyone who can't watch it tonight, a quick check at CBS College Sports shows that they're also replaying the game next Tuesday (June 22) at 7 p.m. locally and again later that night at 1 a.m. A back-to-back triple OT replay? Bring a sandwich.

CBS College Sports is also supposed to show up on Dish Network channel 152 and on DirecTV channel 613.

I'm still in for $25.00 if someone can record a master and make copies. Just checked, we don't get that channel here.

Here's an opportunity for an enterprising individual to make a few bucks for themselves and make some women's hockey fans happy at the same time...(I can't believe NCAA won't take credit card pre-orders, which they can verify...what was their reasoning again?)

Re: 2010 National Championship DVD

This is what they told me:

We do not have a link on our site for the game. We used to have links for games such as this, but we found that people would register fake names and drive up the demand. We would then produce the game and only a couple of the emails would actually purchase the game, thus creating false demand. Typically, people interested in the game will work on their own to gather 25 units. You may have some luck reaching out to the school Athletic departments to see if they have any interest.

Re: 2010 National Championship DVD

Put me down on any list circulating for the both the 2010 title game and the 2009 title game as well...I already have all of the D-I title games from 2001 through 2008, and it's frustrating when the 2009 D-III game is available when the D-I game is not.

Re: 2010 National Championship DVD

Almost seems to me one enthusiastic, magnanimous and generous soul is gonna have to bite the bullet, spring for the number of copies required and hope to recover their costs by selling to others. Doesn't seem like that would be so difficult if that number of copies required for production isn't too inflated.

If it were another team I'd even consider it but...

Re: 2010 National Championship DVD

The contact person at the NCAA who I talked to, Geoff Gray, said the DVDs were $25 each. They want a minimum order of 25 to produce the DVDs at that cost. Assuming they don't give a discount for a bulk order (god forbid), the cost for 25 DVDs would be $625 plus whatever they charge for shipping.

I don't have $625 to throw around. I don't have $150 that they'd charge for a single DVD without the minimum 25 orders. If I did, I'd buy a single DVD and just make copies on my computer and tell the NCAA to kiss my maroon and gold arse.

Well I thing penalties for violation of copyright laws can be rather severe...but go for it! I wouldn't recommend the "kiss my maroon and gold arse" line in the courtroom though.

Hello All-Here is one Cornell Women's Hockey supporter who has been waiting anxiously to respond. I will see what we can do on this end because I know numerous others who feel like all of you-make this piece of Women's Collegiate Hockey history available!
