On a serious note, if you're going to travel that far to watch the ice in front of sec U, try to make sure that you're not too far up in section triple-C or P.

Secs I and II aren't ideal, either. Basically, I'm recommending that you try to get tix from a Maine fan.

Thanks for the information. I use to summer in Maine back in the 80's and can't wait to return for part of a week in Oct. How's the seafood at Capt. Nicks in Bangor these days? I'm also a Black Bear fan as well and was cheering like crazy for them in St. Louis a few years back.

Wouldn't be my first choice for seafood in the Bangor area.

Go to Mclaughlin Seafood on Main Street in Bangor. Unless your looking to get drunk with a bunch a 70 year old dudes. Then the lounge at Captain Nicks is the place for you!

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

Thanks for the tips. The last time I was in Bangor was 2003 so it sounds like things have changed quite a bit.

anyone know when single game tickets go on sale?

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

Inside College Hockey did a pretty fun piece on the history of NCAA draftees to the college game, primarily over the last decade.

They mentioned "Hits" and "Misses" for the clubs.

Maine was mentioned as a "Hit" when Detroit took Jimmy and the Lightning took Lundin. They called Bellamy Phili's college bust, noting that he has averaged 0.1 ppg in his AHL career, and that 5 picks later, Detroit took Franzen!! Ouch! :o

Pat's Pizza in Orono is a must. Beer sold there, as well.

That's right! I love the one up in Orono. I ate at the one on the way to the coast once but the one in Orono has a lot of character .

not to sound TOO BROKEN RECORDY, but Bellamy has forever been put out on the ice as a role player, on a line that NEVER gets to cross the offensive blue line with the puck. If his line gets the puck, he or a linemate skates to the blue line, dumps it in and waits there, on the blue line for the opposing defensemen to skate the puck back out and into a Phantom trap.

not a lot of chance to score points in his role.
and Philly took Bellamy becuse he was a Broad Street Bully-type player
when Franzen went in the third round, remember, Andy Barker and Adam Pinault were taken WAY ahead of him... it was not just Philly who "blew it" on Franzen, it was everyone

At the very least Bellamy belongs in the AHL, if any of you had the good forune of seeing Levs play in Manchester, then... well...
you would see why he is starring in North Carolina (great hands and vision, but like a rag doll getting knocked off the puck)

Oh yea, of course!!

I thought Rob delivered a very important job. Unfortunately, his timing was unlucky. His class replaced Jackson and Shields, so fans were wondering who was going to be the impact scorer. When it was learned that Billy Ryan and Keenan Hopson were tempermental, inconsistant divas, I think higher expectations of point production were put on Bellamy, but that isn't the job he is best suited for. He took some heat from the fans as a result.

I agree that he has the emotional makeup, and physical play of a traditional Flyer. I think when INCH made that piece, they were thinking of draft position (focusing on rounds 1-3) vs. production and progress.

He may be a great fit for an AHL team, but most franchises won't use a 3rd round pick for a minor league lifer! At one point, they had some hope he could develop his game to the next level!

and it also should be mentioned that franzen is 5 or 6 years older than bellamy which may have also contributed to that success... franzen was older, more experienced when he landed in the nhl

So thats the polite term for filth:p

Impossible. My buddy ACS said Maine was pristine and only a city like Boston was filthy on a different thread just the other day.

Is parking at least still free up there?!

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

come on, have you studied Tim's "Systems"
Hopson and Ryan did EXACTLY what Tim demanded that they do, no more and no less.
Just as Tim did not allow Moore to pass the dam puck and just try and take it from the corner to the front everytime he could, he also dictated, in the most micromanagerial manner possible, every little move that his players make/made.
Billy had a little bit of an ego, but he did what he was told to do. Keenan had absolutely NO ego whatsoever.

the only player Tim allowed a long leash (offensively)on was Teddy Purcell, at least Tim realized that Purcell was already way beyond anything Tim could teach him, so he let Teddy and Levs do what they wanted. (Prestin had a different leash)

that said... the discussion about Bellamy's point production was focused on what he has been doing in the AHL...

also as for third round picks in the NHL... I think you might find that it is the first rounders ONLY who are really expected to play in the show, and anyond after that is just gravy... look at who the thrid rounders have been over the past few years....and look at how many NHL games any of them played in.
...Bellamy came in with some promised talent...but he was more or less Over-Rated.

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

I loved watching Rob Bellamy play. Shawn Thornton was a 7th round pick though. Third round for Bells isn't a good pick. That's reality; acknowledging it doesn't mean you dislike/disrespect the player.
