Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

Totally unrelated topic but I have a question regarding the rule changes for this coming season. Does anyone know if the icing rule has changed, i was reading on USCHO that when on a PK you cant ice the puck? is this true? also, are there any other major rule changes?

That would be a lousy rule if its true!

The Pro and College seasons are meshing together in my head right now, so help me out: Did the NCAA actually make the move to NHL icing rules last year regarding line changes, or was that wishful thinking in my head and a push for next year??

That's what really bothered me. Teams icing the puck to get a change -- it totally underminds any reward for effective, sustained pressure by any team!

Maine's Matt Mangene and Joey Diamond taking part in New York Islanders mini-camp
.

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

Mangene was listed as a Defenseman at the Islanders mini-camp.

Is it likely that he'll be manning the blueline again for Maine this fall?

I kind of doubt it. Maine has plenty of Dmen coming back considering there were no senior D's. Also, Matt Mangene is one of the most effective ways of getting the puck into the offensive zone: give him the puck and have him carry it. He's a quick one.

...No matter where Mangene plays he will be a Gritty Heart & Soul player that Maine needs in the lineup night in and night out...but I agree he's best suited on the forward line but he also is not shabby to have on the d-man end either if injuries arise...glad he's a Black Bear.

Banwell is trying out with the Flyers.
Who else is playing in pro camps right now?

Congrats to the BU Terriers for getting a commitment from a 14-year old. My nephew just turned 8 but Jack hasn't been in touch with him yet.

<------------ Insert Keith Johnson zinger here. :D

(wonder if this will prompt another angry tirade from sandiego)

Jack will be in a rocking chair at Shady Pines by the time this kid sets foot on campus.

He was admirable during Maine's postseason effort, but I don't think it's the right spot for him.

We all know he plays with grit, and heart, but don't forget, that kid has wheels! You like to have hustle in all 3 zones, of course, but with so many upperclassmen on D this year, and a few high caliber kids replacing the seniors next year, I would think he's better suited applying pressure with the 3rd line!
