2010-2011 Patty Kazmaier Thread: Congrats to Meghan Duggan!

Re: 2010-2011 Patty Kazmaier Thread: FINAL THREE Agosta, Duggan, Stack

Re: 2010-2011 Patty Kazmaier Thread: FINAL THREE Agosta, Duggan, Stack

Either way, its clear that this is a two-person race at this point so theres not much use in arguing the above point. For pure hockey skills, the race is very close. Agost is the best goal scorer in the country and is an amazing offensive talent, there is no arguing that (until Knight takes that crown). However, Duggan's well rounded, unselfish play in both the offensive and defensive zones give her a slight edge IMO. Because their offensive on-ice talents are so close, the difference-maker will come down to the intangibles.
I actually think it's much closer between Stack and Duggan than between Agosta and Duggan. Agosta simply didn't do enough to impress outside the CHA this year. It largely comes down to what the ECAC coaches thought, since they don't have a top contender. Stack could win if she got consensus support from the ECAC, but I expect Duggan will take it, as I believe she should.

And to be clear, Kaz voting is also before NCAAs start. Stack of course backed up her Top 3 status quite well from what I saw.

I'm sure that it was stated earlier in the thread, but I'm too lazy to look ... is the process still that the final vote occurs on the ten finalists, three are announced, and then the winner is announced (meaning no additional vote on the final three)?

Yes, no second vote after final 3 are determined. I don't think it matters too much in the outcome, since committee would have pretty good idea who others think are in the top 3 or 4 already. What I know nothing about is how votes are aggregated at either level. (Coaches rank top 10 candidates for top 10, committee ranks top 3 candidates)

Curious when you will stop slamming Gus? She has many times over proven that she is one of the premier players in the world and has the accolades to prove it.
off the ice she is a class act and a true leader.
It seems someone is stuck in the on ice performance mode instead of the full meaning of The Patty Kazmaier Award

If you think that's a slam, don't ever venture into the men's forum. People tend to be pretty gentle in here.

Sorry, it's not my intention to slam Agosta. I'm giving you my realistic assessment of her chances of winning the award. I don't think they're looking good.

We all know she's one of the greatest players ever, but winning the Kaz is about this year. It's not clear she did enough in college hockey this year to win.

I don't dispute your assessment of her character, but there's no doubt about Duggan's character either.

As I've said, I feel really bad for her if she indeed gets nominated to the top three four times and doesn't win. And doubly bad since this one comes for a Frozen Four in her backyard which her team just missed. But luck just hasn't gone her way when it comes to this award, and I feel she's been just short of the best candidate in each of her four years.

Re: 2010-2011 Patty Kazmaier Thread: FINAL THREE Agosta, Duggan, Stack

Stack was quite simply the best player on the ice today against a team that gave UW fits last week. To suggest that she has no place among the finalists is nothing short of ridiculous.

Bu!!$h!t. Your posts are classic for subtly slamming Agosta, not even your glitzy numbers and glossy verbage can hide it. Good try though.

THANK YOU for saying what many are thinking!
(I was trying to be polite)

(with regard to slamming in the men's forum)
I don't have any interest in the men's forum as my sons are 27 and 24, done playing Jr Hockey. They are busy with marriage and work. The oldest is president of our local minor hockey association, a civil engineer, the second is an architectural engineer and together they coach PeeWee rep.
They are also their little sister's biggest fans.
Between 2 boys and 1 girl I have enjoyed 17 yrs of AAA boys hockey and 10 yrs Jr mens combined
They are also their little sister's biggest fans.
Been there, done that with men's hockey

Re: 2010-2011 Patty Kazmaier Thread: FINAL THREE Agosta, Duggan, Stack

Ok, fine, you're all entitled to your opinion of what it means to slam someone.

Being a top three Kazmaier candidate 4 times in a career is an unprecedented accomplishment, and Agosta certainly deserves that distinction. I don't think she's been the best candidate any of those four years, but it's hard to be the best candidate in any given year, so I hardly think I'm slamming her.

If it makes Agosta fans feel better, I believe there's no question she had a better college career than Vaillancourt, who won in 2008. I believe you can make a respectable case she had a better college career than Chu who won in 2007 and either Duggan or Stack who could win this year, though I can imagine some here arguing otherwise. So if you were to revaluate each Kaz decision based on the 4-year credentials of each top 3 honoree in each year, Agosta would have 1-3 Kazmaiers.

Unlike you, my personal opinion is that the 3 finalists are all deserving of the nomination. I have a great deal of respect for Duggan and Stack. They are tremendous young ladies. I have had the honor of watching Agosta ever since she played boys hockey from Novice up through boys AAA, INT AA womens, 2 Olympics and NCAA Div 1

I will not negatively judge any of these players as they are most worthy.

Of course Dave thinks all three are deserving -- he predicted those three in advance. This is not the negative judgement that you are claiming.

I'm missing where I've ever said Agosta is not deserving of any honor she's received. It's a high standard to reach the Kaz final 3. There's no year in which someone made the Kaz 3 and wasn't deserving of the honor and would be a worthy representative of the award. And only Agosta has made the final 3 four times, a much smaller category of distinction than Kazmaier winners.

Re: 2010-2011 Patty Kazmaier Thread: FINAL THREE Agosta, Duggan, Stack

Just wanted to point out, the Final Three all continued to back up their selections this weekend: 2 goals for Stack against an All-American goalie to give her team an insurmountable edge, 2 goals for Agosta to keep her team in the game, and a game-winner for Duggan like she's done all season.

Duggan should win it but why no Lamoureux?

Can you believe I said that when my handle is Stack? Gees what was I thinking?

I think it's because you can't conbine the performance of 2 players even if they are twins.
