Could Atlanta finally be on the right track?

While extremely skimpy on details, the ownership lawsuit has finally been settled.

Players who play as a team, wins, continued support from sponsors, ownership settlement... all that's missing is the fan support now.

http://www.gq.com/sports/profiles/201101/brian-burke-nhl-gay-players-athletes?printable=trueGreat look at the legacy Brian Burke is trying to carry on for his son. Great article.
That was a good article. Interesting that Burke is honest about what he's good at and what he's not.

Does Matt Cooke like watching 24/7 and hearing that even his coaches think that he sucks? Discuss.

What is Lemaire going to do? I saw the news and I immediately thought.............hahahahahahahaha!! And this from a Devils fan.

Santa gave all of us hockey fans a goalie brawl last night between the Florida Everblades and the Gwinnett Gladiators last night. Pretty awesome video.

Two or three years ago I saw an ECHL game that had a goalie fight towards the end of the game. There was a line brawl and the home team goalie looked like he was bored so just went and jumped the other team's goalie who was far, far away from any of the fighting. The home team goalie just punched the other goalie while he turtled. Kinda bull**** by the home goalie, but eh, that just gave me another reason to like college hockey more.

MacLean's out, and look who's back behind the Devils' bench.

Merry Christmas, coach! :(

Facing the prospect of missing the playoffs for the first time since 1997, the New Jersey Devils fired rookie coach John MacLean on Thursday and brought back the firm hand of Jacques Lemaire to try to salvage the season.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

That felt inevitable, really. It seemed like he had trouble communicating with players and with the front office. What is a little surprising, is Lemaire taking over.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

What the NHL needs is more boring hockey. BRING BACK LEMAIRE!

Bruins are coming out flying tonight. Guess all that talk about firing their coach got them fired up.

You know what kind of NHL teams I don't like? Teams that get handed a bunch of top five overall picks and then everyone acts like it's some kind of awesome achievement that they managed to build a good team around them. I'm looking at you, Chicago and Pittsburgh and Washington and Tampa Bay.

Three out of those four cities can say the same thing about their baseball teams!

True, though only one of those baseball teams is actually any good as a result.

More importantly, the baseball draft is such a crapshoot, and the vast majority of baseball draft picks are far enough removed from making a contribution at the top level (as opposed to a Crosby or a Toews or a Stamkos or an Ovechkin, who can make an immediate or almost-immediate impact) that it's a much more difficult proposition to build a good baseball team out of your own high draft picks. (That's leaving aside the differences in the salary structures of the two leagues that make the deck further stacked against, say, the Pirates than it is against the Penguins.)

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

Matt Cooke just got a delay of game for shooting the puck into the stands. He was standing on the goal line and shot it over the netting on the other end.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

jmh is right, the baseball draft is a complete crapshoot. Hockey is much easier to draft with...unless you're Glen Sather.

:shakes fist:

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

Sather hasn't drafted that badly. It's his free agent contracts that are mostly a joke.
