2010-11 Laura Hurd Thread

Re: 2010-11 Laura Hurd Thread

What if the winner isn't there??? Faber, Michaelson, Weiss...

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the finalists are welcome to attend the event. I don't know if anyone ends up paying for their ticket to travel there or not. Was Iwachiw there last year to accept the award since Trinity wasn't in it?

Re: 2010-11 Laura Hurd Thread

I think its just coincidence in the way it fell this year. The finalists have not always been the five conference player of the years.

There is no rule written in stone claiming that its the career achievement award. But, there have been seasons past where it looked like hands down an underclassmen should have won and has been denied for a senior instead.

Derek, you really think this is just "how it fell this year"? This list has to be based on conference POTY. Otherwise, you would have to have either Bloom or Mackrell (or, IMHO, both) on the list.

It's not. I'm sure being their respective conference player of the years didn't hurt but last year Elmira's Jamie kivi was up for the award along with plattsburgh's Steph moberg. Two years ago Elmira's Kayla coady was up for it and so was a Plattsburgh's Danielle Blanchard.

Did Dagg play in the finals????? Do not remember seeing her??? Maybe because it was too hard to see her with LeClerc being such a factor every shift and just dominating......one thing for a player with over 150 career points to only get an All American 1 time in her career but I think when the 2 big names for the Hurd go head to head in the finals and the loser dominates like she did.......I think it shows there was a huge mistake made....any coach who was watching that game that didn't vote for Ms. LeClerc for the Hurd now realizes that they made a big mistake.....Come to think about it I bet Ms. LeClerc is the kind of player who is more happy with the Hardware that her and the team ended up with anyhow.......

I wouldn't necessarily judge the Hurd situation based solely on this weekend's results. If I did, I would have to wonder if maybe Fortier shouldn't have been the choice!

Was in no way basing it on this weekend....although the head to head was a joy to watch....look at the stats for the year, hell take the whole careers if that will work for you.......LeClerc has been the best D3 player for the past couple of years (and was very good the 2 before that).......as far as Ms. Fortier she did not get screwed out of the Hurd..........just All-American.

But in a national championship game (and I'm just going off of the box score) how does a player of her caliber not even get a shot on net?

Excellent point HockeyDMan....this is supposed to be your "Hobey Baker" winner, your "Heisman Trophy" winner for D3 women's hockey.....and she can not so much as muster a shot on goal...against a team that came into the tournament as the bottom seed....a team that had to "sneak in" by some peoples account.....I said it before and I will say it again.....the "commitee" made the wrong choice. This is a National Championship game, one that the "great ones" come to play for and she forgot to show up....look I have nothing against Ms. Dagg, I think she is a very good hockey player, but she should not have been the Laura Hurd winner. Sophie LeClerc........anyone of the 1400 plus people that saw this game live know that you were the best player out there once again..........

Re: 2010-11 Laura Hurd Thread

Here is a joke I heard this weekend while at the festivities at RIT:

Ms. LeClerc: Knock Knock

RIT Fan: Who's there

Ms. LeClerc: Sarah Dagg

RIT Fan: Sarah Dagg Who?

Ms. LeClerc: ..........Exactly

Be assured Ms. LeClerc would never really be this way, far too much class....but I thought it was funny when I heard it !!!

Sophie Leclerc has always been a team leader who has lead by example. She is the heart and soul of the Norwich womens hockey team who always worked 110 percent on her trade ON AND OFF THE ICE.She lead the team to this DIV 3 Championship win as a true Captian by getting the team up to be the best they could be.As you watched this game unfold you saw her blocking shots, diving ahead to push the puck out of the zone during a penalty kill or directing play during the power plays where she got 2 goals. Then when you saw her on the bench she was always slapping the other players on the back, pepping them up to push harder. Plus as she was going back onto the ice she made sure to bang her stick on the chin pads of the players coming off the ice. If the play was in the Norwich end of the ice she was always hitting the pads of the goalie with stick and talking to her.Sophie you are a true Leader Who we the FANS are truely proud of and say THANK-YOU with a heavy heart.;););)
