2010-11 D-I ECAC Awards

Re: 2010-11 D-I ECAC Awards

The same could be said for Weber, who stole quite a few a games. Both good choices however

I'd go with Weber. Both she and Jackee have similar ECAC save pct. But I can really only point to two games Jackee really stole, that first Princeton game and the last Quinnipac. Weber had much more and against better teams. The head to head is a wash when you look at both games. That first loss to Yale looks bad for Weber, but she got a lot better. Still it's close though.

Re: 2010-11 D-I ECAC Awards

I would swap the goalies. Weber has been the biggest impact player on Princeton this year.

Your can't be surprised, her own coach did not feel that way for the first third of the season (the one who you have so ferociously defended in the past)

That's not quite fair. If you had seen Weber in the exhibition against McGill, when she couldn't stop anything, you wouldn't have started her, either. Then, when she had to play because Seguin was injured, she wasn't exactly a wall, having a losing record (and allowing 8 goals vs. Boston U). In the first Yale game, she allowed two goals on 8 shots. It was the next night, against Brown, that something clicked for her and she started her tremendous streak.

Re: 2010-11 D-I ECAC Awards

I think that Mark Hudak deserves the award this year. Cornell was picked to finish first and so they merely fulfilled expectations. How hard is it to coach a team that is loaded with talent? Hudak took a team that finished out of the playoffs last year and brought them to third, two points behind Harvard. And beat Cornell in the process handing the Big Red their only ECAC regular season loss.

Congratulations Lauriane !
Not only a very good hockey player, but a wonderful young lady.

Not sure what you mean, Dave (too/and I don't want to enter the ejection chamber/locker... Dave)-

Quoting you above-
"Taking a bit longer view, however, I wouldn't give too much credit to Hudak. Dartmouth won the ECAC postseason title in 2008-2009. I think by any standard the 2009-2010 team underachieved by missing the playoffs. So I think to judge this team's expectations on a higher baseline. I still think this was an excellent coaching job by Hudak, but not as great as you might expect from a "9th place to 2nd place" improvement."

Might you elaborate, expand, Dave- you seem to contradict yourself in this paragraph...what am I missing? Yes/no?

Do not think our goal deserved elevation above others not elevated (Ivy honors), maybe honor (Hon. Mention) better more fairly placed at Yale and Princeton, say.

Not sure as Green supporter BUT DO KNOW, Lindsay came on like gang busters/nicely-WONDERFULLY and I'm feeling groovy-groovy as to next year, beyond gang! Too, last year when picked one of you dissed (spelling?) her. Do NOT make me search files.

And certainly saw Green team which all season we accused of, " Who/which team, is going to show today?" get it together and change mid/late season; seemed to originate somewhere within defensive setup (and the, of course, topical juju use.)

Nanji deserved second team and both Cornell defensemen deserved first team (Ivy.)

W H O didn't see this coming for Cornell?

I sure did and said so- asked on Cornell thread, "You all think you will lose any games"- or some such (Paraphrasing myself.)

C'mon, Dave!

re: papulaisle - my point was that because Dartmouth underachieved last season, your coach, who did a fine job by any measure, didn't do as wildly exceptional job as you might think just by looking at the standings and polls this year and last year. But still a fine job.

I agree Nanji deserved all-ivy honors. If you're suggesting Pucci didn't, I disagree for reasons I gave earlier. Sherry is the one I'd have bumped for Nanji.

Just curious as to why Sherry is ahead of Nanji - if you look at the numbers, Nanji is ahead in every category. Maybe I am missing some intangible?

I doubt it. I agree it's a bad pick. I don't know you looked at the +/- numbers or read my earlier post, but Nanji had the 2nd-best +/- on Dartmouth and Sherry had the second-worst +/- on Princeton. I don't think any intangibles can reverse that.

All I can say is coaches only see each team twice, defensemen are generally tough to quantify, and probably it's easier for a senior to have made an impression than a sophomore.

I agree that Nanji's numbers might suggest she would deserve more recognition here. Without singling out individuals, I can think of a couple of other situations where some might also have been as or more deserving of honors than those named. The only explanation I can see is that it would seem that the profile associated with previous years' reputations/awards/national team nods may be factored into the equation (perhaps unconsciously) rather than this season's performance alone.

I suspect this may especially be true with defensemen, where the stats are least likely tell the story, and the true appreciation of one's talents (and flaws) may not be seen except on multiple viewings and comparisons over time.

Congrats to all the recipients.

Can't resist noting that three of these Canadians players have been snubbed todate by Hockey Canada's program altogether (Babstock, Nanji, and Vigilanti), and neither Sabatine or Mercer got U22 invites despite U18 participation.

Kind of makes you question their ability to judge talent, doesn't it?
