Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 3 - It's still not over...statistically

Sounds like a barn burner so far. Wish I could watch and not just get updates.

Blackburn was able to get himself out of a few jams early in the game otherwise this could have been out of hand early.

Twins get the leadoff man on in the 7th, Tolbert bunts him over to second (with 2 strikes no less), Punto walks and the Tigers make a pitching change.

Span will be batting with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 3 - It's still not over...statistically

Span flies out to right and now there are two outs. That was kind of a sad swing by Denard.

Orlando Cabrera then strikes out to end the inning. Twins strand two in the 7th.

1-1, 7th inning stretch.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 3 - It's still not over...statistically

Blackburn sets the Tigers down 1-2-3 again. He's retired 12 straight Tigers, but with 111 pitches, I doubt he sees the 8th inning.

1-1 going to the 8th.

Mauer leads off for the Twins.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 3 - It's still not over...statistically

Mauer grounds out to lead off the inning, and he's now 0-4 in the game. Kubel then comes up with a broken bat single with one out. Carlos Gomez then pinch runs for Kubel. Cuddyer pops up to center for the second out, and Delmon Young pops up to right to end the inning.

1-1 going to the bottom of the 8th. Minnesota needs to get their bats going.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 3 - It's still not over...statistically

I can't even begin to describe how idiotic it was to run Gomez for Kubel.

With this being a double header, and potentially going to extras, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to stretch Blackburn one more inning. Have to preserve the bullpen.

edit: nevermind :p

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 3 - It's still not over...statistically

Sounds like Blackburn was cash money today.
Well, I'll say this: he did a nice job of pitching out of the virtual traffic jam the Tigers created on the base paths in the first four innings.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 3 - It's still not over...statistically

Mijares comes in relieving Blackburn in the 8th, and gets the first guy to pop out to center. Cabrera lines out to Span in right for the 2nd out. Thames pinch hits for Huff, and subsequently, Mijares is replaced by John Rauch. Thames grounds out to third, and that's the end of the 8th.

1-1 going to the 9th.

Let's go boys! Take care of some business here in the ninth!

Extra innings isn't helpful in a doubleheader...

Exactly. The game could have been out of reach after four innings, but Blackburn did a nice job getting himself out of trouble. If the Tigers lose this game, they'll be kicking themselves for giving up those opportunities.

The updates I'm getting from MLB.com are lagging what I'm reading on here. I really wish that gamecast wasn't blocked at work...

mlb.com is very slow. I have the mlb.tv package that they have and it's usually at least 2 batters behind. Needless to say, I'm glad MLB Network picked up the games today.

Tolbert up, and most likely will be asked to bunt, and takes the first pitch for a strike. On the second pitch, and he's successful. Casilla at third with 1 out.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 3 - It's still not over...statistically

Punto is at the plate, with the infield in. Yikes.

The Twins try a squeeze play, but Punto pops it up and it's a double play.

Yuck. Big play for the Tigers.

1-1 going to the bottom of the 9th. Hopefully we see extra innings.
