Re: 2009-2010 UNH Wildcats Season

A couple of feel-good, informative interviews. Interesting how comfortable the relationship between JvR and Coach Umile seems to be. Also, a positive comment about his brother playing for Coach Umile, Lassonde and Borek.

Re: 2009-2010 UNH Wildcats Season

On WHEB this morning Umile said Burke and Speelman are back.

So the question is what are the lines?

1st is obvious. T,D,B
2nd I doubt you mess with it is just showing signs S,L,M

But the next 2, who knows.

I think 5 of the 6 forwards are obvious (if everyone is truely healthy)
Burke
Speelman
Borisenok
Henrion
McCarey

The question for me is who is the 6th guy and what are the lines. Odds are the 6th guy is Manz or Block with Pavelski a long shot. I think Manz gets the nod same number of games and points as Block but very few panalties.

For lines I think you might see the same 3rd as last week with Speelman and Burke on the 4th.

With guys comming back I think you will see more balance between the lines for ice time.

I liked McCarey, Borisenok, and and Speelman on the same line. Very fast, smart line. Burke, Henrion and Manz for 4th line.

You could also make an argument for putting Burke on the third line w/two speedsters, and move one down to the 4th line, but I like the 'fast' line.

The advantages of having a big brother in the NHL and on the US Olympic team:

very interesting.

Mid-week press conference on youtube.

Inside Hockey: UNH midweek conference (02/17/10)

JvR picked a visit to UNH for his Olympic break. He was part of the press conference and Umile joked about getting him in the line up this week.

Also of note is Burke and Speelman both were scheduled to practice and if that was good both could be in the line up.

Another insidehockey clip.

This on is a JvR interview done in the whitt. Talks about NHL, UNH, TvR.

Inside Hockey is an interesting site. For example they have post game video from UNH vs PC, good stuff.

nice to see JVR come back and skating with the boys. i like it:) i don't know who the girl is that interviewed JVR but she did a good job. interesting interview.

Re: 2009-2010 UNH Wildcats Season

Ok... the good news? I have really good beer tonight.... Goose Island Oatmeal Stout (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/goose-i...al-stout/815/). Malts' Rating is actually a bit lower... I would give this an even 80 out of 100. Still, fine stuff.

The better news? The game is on NESN (for those with DirecTV that would be on channel 628).

The best news? Toby (limeycat1 or limeycat), Matt, and I will be coming out to NH for our annual Hockey East Weekend trip next weekend (we arrive Thursday afternoon from London (Toby), Montreal (Matt), and Detroit (me.. Chad). This year it's the Northeastern series. And we are so pumped to see everyone again!!! Darci, Matt, George, Mike, Rob, Ankur, Josh, and everyone else.... so psyched for the trip and to hang with you guys for a couple of games and doing the UNH/Boston/Bob's/Newicks/WYW/Libby's thing yet again! I will still have my Detroit Tigers away hat (orange Olde English "D") on for a good chunk of the weekend, so if you see a guy wearing one and you don't know me, feel free to come up and say "Hi!". Who knows? I might even buy you a beer or two at Wings Your Way or Libby's.

The bad news? I am going to miss a good chunk of the game tonight on the S.U. thread as I have to leave the house for a few hours.... grrrrrr!!!!!!

Ok.. gotta run!! GO CATS (Wildcats, that is!)!!!!! And see you guys next weekend!!!!!

George, you still have my cell #, right? We will be at WYW on Thurs. night for sure... likely around 8p or so. And if anyone else wants to meet up with us, feel free to come by. :)

Sounds great, Chad. I'll plan on seeing you guys there around 8. I've got your number, so let me know if plans change. Looking forward to seeing you guys!

Ok, good... yeah, I can't imagine the plans for Thurs. changing... it will just be me, Toby, Matt, and Pete. No Christian (the guy from the Dom. Republic) or Dean (he is going to Spring Training in Phoenix this year and could not take two vacations so close together time-wise). Oh.. that reminds me... Darci got us 5 tix for the games, so if you know anyone needing a ticket to either game, we have one for sale each night. :)

Catch ya on Thursday!

I'll take the Friday extra, if it's still available.

Matt,

You got it... Christian (our buddy from the Dominican Republic) found out very recently that he won't be able to come up for the weekend, so we do have that extra ticket now. If you want it, it is all yours. Thanks!!

Re: 2009-2010 UNH Wildcats Season

Some of you fans of a certain age might appreciate this. I'm at the game tonight, catching up with a couple of guys I graduated with. While we're talking, one of them says "Guess who just walked behind you? Gordie Clark." I caught up with him in between periods and chatted about the game and how he's doing. Turns out, he was at the game scouting Bobby Butler and Brayden Irwin, both undrafted prospects. Gordie is currently the Director of Player Personnel with the New York Rangers.

As for the game - funny how unpredictable hockey is. UVM outplayed UNH on Friday night and lost. Tonight, UNH outplayed UVM, particularly in the 1st and 3rd periods and in overtime and they tied. Madore was unbelievable. One of his dozen or so amazing saves had him doing a total split, like a gymnast, with the puck lodged underneath...well, use your imagination. How he didn't earn the first star is beyond me. The refs were atrocious in the third period, not calling four blatant penalties on UVM. I was pleased to see Hardowa get some ice time on defense. You can count on him to take the body when he's in the corner which is preferable to waving at the puck - an unfortunate habit of some other D-men.

Pretty amazing parity in Hockey East. If UNH plays throughout the playoffs with the intensity they had tonight, they'll do fine.

The only thing is, they have to play with that intensity for 60 minutes. They have blown 2-0 leads 3 out of the last 5 games, lost 2 of them and tied 1. They have two very good opponents coming up in Northeastern and Boston College. Lets hope the boys in Blue can learn from their mistakes and come out flying for a full 60 minutes.
