Islanders trade Andy Sutton to Ottawa for the Sens 2nd round pick they got from San Jose.

An aging 5th/6th defenseman for a high-ish pick isn't too bad. He is big, physical, blocks shots and has a lot of PK experience. All things considered, he's had a pretty solid NHL career for being a former Tech road cone. ;)

What a treat it is as a hockey viewer to go from the Olympic Gold Medal game on Sunday afternoon/evening to Bruins/Habs tonight.

Talk about two extremes on the quality scale.

It could be worse - you could be watching Rangers/Sens. ;)

Once Pittsburgh clears some salary space, they'll be sending Luca Caputi to Toronto for Alexei Ponikarovsky.

"Did you just send that joke fax waiving Crosby to the NHL offices?"

"It looked just like a normal one."

"You ****ing idiot, go unplug the fax. Call Gary, do something!"

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Part 3: After The Gold Rush

Well - after the magic of Sunday -- my Leafs still suck! :(

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Part 3: After The Gold Rush

It looks like Toronto will help Pittsburgh make salary room.

Deal will be:

Pittsburgh gets: Alexei Ponikarovsky
Toronto gets: Luca Caputi and Martin Skoula (expiring contract)

Caputi is a Toronto kid with 47 points with the Baby Pens -- he will be part of Burke's youth movement.

Scoula's another UFA that will be out of TO come summer.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Part 3: After The Gold Rush

From DGB's post on the trade, he got The Pensblog's opinion on Martin Skoula and I'm sure anyone who's had him on their favorite team can agree with this:

P.S. If you want to know about Martin Skoula, take the wheels off your car and try to drive to work every morning.

Back to reality, eh?

And yeah, that trade may as well be:

To Pittsburgh: A decent power forward for depth
To Toronto: A decent hometown prospect and a bag of pucks

Pretty funny to think Skoula was ever a 1st round pick.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Part 3: After The Gold Rush

Didn't see anything posted here:

DiPietro is out indefinitely after experiencing swelling in his surgically repaired left knee. Who's shocked?

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Part 3: After The Gold Rush

There's one legit real league in the world. The KHL is falling apart. Enjoy playing for 1/10th the money in facilities where guys die because of the pathetic medical budget!

Yeah, if the players really care about the Olympics they're going to have to give up something. Something substantial like a year of FA or something.

Maybe not the KHL but the Elitserien, SM-Liiga, the DEL, the Swiss A League, the Czech Extraliga. Or entirely possible by then, a pan-European league.

I've always felt that if someone with enough patience, charisma, money, and business sense came along they could really work to build a pan-European league that could rival the NHL. It would certainly change the game of hockey as we know it.

audio works for me. They also say they have an iPhone/iPod Touch app.

*edit* so the link and audio works, apparently the iPhone/iPod app is Canada only. Fu**ing us broadcasting laws. Why can't we get the best in north American programming? My tv already has a dozen Telemundo type channels. :(

Anybody got a working link to TSN's tradecentre coverage? Their site only plays in Canada.

Site is working just fine here in Michigan. Just go to the TSN website and click the Tradecentre link.
