And, you really don't think that Gaustad / Kaleta / Myers wouldn't be able to spur Chara into dropping the gloves if he were healthy? I know the Bs don't want him to fight, but there have been enough tussles around him that I wouldn't say it's out of the question.

The way this series has gone, how close it's been...I think it is out of the question. Chara is too valuable on the ice especially without Seidenberg and Stuart.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Part 1: How will the Sharks screw it up this time?

He was OK last night anyway:D

Looking at the Detroit papers, there are some eery parallels between Howard in Detroit and Whitehead at Maine -- in terms of folks being frustrated by success when it doesn't fit their agenda.

Of course, the majority of the internet nutcases actually waited for things to turn out badly. Not all, but the majority.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Part 1: How will the Sharks screw it up this time?

However, if I am decent goalie that is on the market. I would give the Wings a look.

If you're a decent goalie on the market this summer, you might give the Wings a puppy dog look, but I'll bet Ken Holland probably won't throw you so much as a crumb. ;)

Chris Osgood has another year on his contract yet, and I doubt the Wings are looking to trade him. Babcock just has to manage the goalie situation a little better than he was able to this season, and I see Osgood being fine as a backup who will start 20 games and probably see relief duty in another 5-10.

If you look at what's going on down in GRR, they're working on developing two goalies, Larsson and McCollum. Larsson is 24, and would likely be given a shot at pushing Howard for playing time when Osgood becomes an UFA in 2011 (I believe he can play another year in the AHL without getting into that whole waivers mess, right?).

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Part 1: How will the Sharks screw it up this time?

Sure Howard is the solution right now, but didn't they draft a goalie in the first round recently? I suppose that could be a potential tandem.

Thomas McCollum two years ago. He's with the Red Wings right now watching the playoffs from the stands to soak in the experience. He's still very young and got his first taste of AHL play this year and he was quite green. 3.48 goals against and .881 save percentage in 30 games.

He's a long way off. Daniel Larsson is the next goalie in line and then former Notre Dame goalie Jordan Pearce is behind McCollum.

If you're going to start reading Detroit columnists, read Bob Wojnowski in the Detroit News and maybe Ansar Kahn on mlive.com. Wojo is usually right on the mark, and when he's off, he doesn't miss by much. Chris McCosky is the Detroit News beat writer, and this is his first year with the Wings. He used to be on the Pistons beat, but he was so bad with information that he drew the nickname "Officer Barbrady" from another website. He's a hack.

The fools at the Free Press are marginal at best. Mitch Albom will come down from the Oprah Circuit and write the occasional column that will confirm that his pennis fell off about 10 years ago, and Drew Sharp is a bitter man that hates anything and everything.

If you're going to start reading Detroit columnists

Actually, I thought the columnists were playing things pretty evenly. I was referring to the comments below the columns :)

I'm not trying to be sanctimonious, here. Believe me, most Maine fans can relate to being accustomed to a certain level of success, and then getting cranky when it looks like it's slipping away. We have a vague idea of how that goes. :D

Ahhh. You've been reading the Free Press. Most comments left on Freep articles, and most online articles for that matter, are imbecilic at best.

Headed down on the Downeaster in about 30 minutes....off to Game 4 at the Ghaaaaaaaaaaaaaden. :)

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Part 1: How will the Sharks screw it up this time?

Well, in year one, Rask emerged. Even if nobody takes Thomas, I believe Rask's cap hit goes down significantly next season. Looking at Thomas' numbers, he wasn't flat out horrible. He can still be a decent backup.

Rask's does go down, but fear not, Lucic and Ferrence's deals kick in!

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Part 1: How will the Sharks screw it up this time?

Chiarelli definitely overpaid Lucic, but he had a very good year last year. He's regressed this year like a lot of other players, but he's also been hurt. I'd imagine he'll return to form next year.

Ference...ya, not a fan of re-signing him.

Honest question, what do you expect Lucic's regular "form" to be?

His shooting percentage in 2008-09 was 17.5%. And he had almost twice as many secondary assists as primary.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Part 1: How will the Sharks screw it up this time?

2008-09 72 17 25 42 136 10 3 6 9 43
2009-10 50 9 11 20 44 3 0 0 0 6

As I stated, he's overpaid, but he had a huge impact last year and it goes beyond the scoresheet.

Don't think it's unreasonable to see him in the 20 goal range while having the physical impact he did last season.

TIIIMMAAY?
I hear he is coming back next season?

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Part 1: How will the Sharks screw it up this time?

Jeff Carter's done for the year in Philadelphia.

In other news, the Washington Capitols have just advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Any update on Savard?

He's been cleared to practice but no word on when he will return. There are rumors he could return for this series but I just don't see how that is possible.

I don't think Jimmy is the reason its slipping away. Sure he sucked in game 3 but where's the offense? Another parallel to Maine before this year:D

Gagne's out 3 weeks.

Christ, New Jersey, if you can't beat a Gagne-less, Carter-less, Boucher-goaltended Flyers team...
