The Bruins would win if they had Devin Rask as well as Tuukka Rask. (And if they get Jason Platt, Fernando Pisani, the Omicioli brother, Jon Rheault, and just for GLM - Tory Gadja! Woo hoo!)

You know, it wouldnt surprise me if the Bruins make a run with this s*** team. I dont know why, but in seasons past when they have been #1 they blow it. Now, nobody is expecting them to do anything, so maybe they'll surprise us.

Then again...it is the Bruins:mad:

Probably will get swept.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Part 1: How will the Sharks screw it up this time?

In regard to this thread's title, I'm well aware that the Sharks are "regular season giants" while being "playoff disasters." Having said that, let me add that because I live in Denver, I frequently get to see the Avs on television. The team had a terrific start to the season, but struggled mightily down the stretch. In fact, the Avs go into the playoffs having won just three of their final thirteen regular season games. Toss in injuries to rookie center Matt Duchene [a bona fide candidate for rookie of the year in the NHL] and forward Peter Mueller[who has played quite well since coming over from Phoenix in the Wojtek Wolski trade] and Colorado may not be able to skate its most potent lineup early in the series against San Jose.

Ryan Stoa scored the Avs lone goal yesterday and this morning's paper said it was the 166th point scored by a rookie for the Avs this season. That's a shade more than two points a game, which demonstrates how reliant the Avs have been on young players this season.

The Avs certainly are decided underdogs playing without the burden of expectation on them. San Jose has too many recent early playoff departures to be able to dismiss them altogether from its collective memory. My $.02 is that the Avs might find a way to win a game in the series, but I think San Jose will make short work of Colorado. And I agree with the line of thinking that should San Jose be upset in this series "heads will roll."

I didn't know Duchene was injured, which makes picking SJ to win all the easier, IMO. Anderson was strong through the first half of the season, but I think he's been tuckering out down the stretch. They've asked a lot of him this year, being a true #1 for the first time in his career and playing behind a young team.

Duchene is going to play. Mueller is still out though.

Anybody want a SRO ticket for Game 1 Friday in Chicago?

Since my Rangers are out, I'll root for the Sabres. I'd love to see Miller get far.

BTW, Evander Kane is my new favorite hockey player. See Matt Cooke vs. Evander Kane for more details.

I'm still trying to figure out who to root for with the Rangers out. Think it'll wind up being a Western Conference team. It feels blasphemous to root for any of their rivals.

DownGoesBrown includes this in it's Playoff Pool Tips article today:

Wherever possible, focus on players that appear to be well-rested. For example, savvy veteran Matt Cooke recently took a refreshing ten-minute nap in the middle of a game.

The kids at Plum High School in Pittsburgh did this lipdub back on April 1. I'm no Pens fan, but the TV Production students did a darn good job:

Eastern

Capitals over Canadiens (4 games)

Devils over Flyers (5 games)

Sabres over Bruins (5 games)

Penguins over Senators (6 games)

-----

Western

Sharks over Avalanche (6 games)

Blackhawks over Predators (5 games)

Canucks over Kings (4 games)

Red Wings over Coyotes (6 games)

ultimately, it'll end up Blackhawks over Capitals (just one man's opinion)

From a Leafs fan on another board

Random fun story...

A Phoenix Coyote blogger made an offhand comment about throwing a snake on the ice (as a counter to the Wings fans throwing octopus). Because we have nothing else going on this time of year, a few Leaf fans decided to take him at face value and spread the word on twitter.

A few hours later, the "Throw The Snake" movement has already been covered on Canadian TV news, and the Coyotes have been forced to issue a statement threatening to eject any fans who throw snakes.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Part 1: How will the Sharks screw it up this time?

What's funny is that 90% of Phoenix fans probably have no idea what the historical significance of the octopus is. ;)

But hey, if they're content to win one playoff game instead of going all the way, I'm down with that. :D
