2009-2010 New Hampshire Wildcats Season

Re: 2009-2010 New Hampshire Wildcats Season

Any relation to Jenn Hitchcock? Both are from LaSalle, Ont.

If so, is UNH recruiting her? She's currently 15th in scoring in the PWHL with 35 pts in 32 games.

Without reading the article, if it's Jessie, then yes, it's Jen's little sister, who was a regular in the stands unless her own schedule conflicted. I have no idea of her college aspirations.

Jessie = Jessica?

Re: 2009-2010 New Hampshire Wildcats Season

Jessica Hitchcock recently committed to Niagara U for next season...you're outta luck!

Oh well, would have been cool to have 'lil sis as well. The UNH men have some history with getting siblings (Haydar, Hemingway, Van Riemsdyk).

There was also the Clark's and also the Cox's, though Cliff played and Ken was manager. Probably only DC remembers these names.

I'm certainly aware of those names as well, although I obviously never saw them play, but I was more speaking of the relatively recent past.

On the flip side, UNH lost out on the younger Yandle (academics) and the younger Ciocco (major jr).

Re: 2009-2010 New Hampshire Wildcats Season

Great to see some of the familiar names that helped make UNH hockey, come up in the thread...Ralphie was in the house Saturday night getting the first hand look at the new locker room....Gordie Clark is what, ***'t. GM with the NY Rangers? To know that Gary played with UNH is pretty good....Gee I miss seeing Cilffy hanging around Portsmouth....if he's still living on his boat on the Maine Coast, he hasn't been very visible...great memories of good friends, thanks peeps!

Sure do. I was in the same class as Gary Clark and Scott Burkhart, Mike's younger brother.

You forgot to mention another good pair of siblings on the men's side...Andy and Quintin Brickley. Has the women's team had sisters on the team at the same time? I can't recall

Cindy and Sarah McKay (the younger of the two) back in the McCurdy era. Both played defense - quite well, I might add, and had two playing years together.

Jeannie and Carol Menard - both played on the inaugural Varsity team, as well as for another year. Jeannie, the older of the two finished her career as a Senior captain and stayed on as an assitant the following year. Carol left the program prior to graduation.

Just recently, of course, the Marty twins for a year before they split up and went in different directions.

Sisters who played, but not at the same time:

I player for several years with Kelly Stone, Coach Stone's sister, who followed the year after I was done.

Melissa (Goal A Shift line) White was a senior my rookie year. Her sister, Betsy, came in as a transfer my junior year.

I'm sure there are others, these come to mind immediately.

LAVOIE HONORED AS BAUER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK BY HOCKEY EAST

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Kristina Lavoie (Fonthill, Ontario), a freshman forward on the fourth-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was selected Bauer Rookie of the Week by Hockey East on Monday.

Lavoie extended her goal-scoring streak to eight games – the longest by a Wildcat this season – with one goal in both games last weekend at the University of Maine. In the Saturday, Jan. 31 victory, she scored the first goal of the game at 5:39 of the first period to give the Wildcats a lead they would not relinquish en route to a 3-1 win. Lavoie had closed the scoring with a third-period goal in Friday’s 5-2 win against the Black Bears; she recorded a game-high six shots in that game.

This marked Lavoie’s third league award this season. She was honored as the Rookie of the Month for December and the Bauer Rookie of the Week on Jan. 11.

In 24 games this season, Lavoie has recorded 13 goals and nine assists for 22 points to rank fifth in the nation in rookie scoring at 0.92 points per game. She leads UNH rookies in both goals and points, and overall those numbers rank second on the team in goals and third in points. Lavoie is also tied for the team lead in power-play goals (five) and she is 17th in the nation with that total. Furthermore, Lavoie has the second-highest shooting percentage (.188) on the team and she is third in plus/minus (+10).

New Hampshire (15-4-5 overall, 9-3-2-0) returns to action Feb. 3 (7 p.m.) at the University of Vermont. The Wildcats’ next home game is Feb. 6 against Boston University. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 2 p.m.

Re: 2009-2010 New Hampshire Wildcats Season

Anyone have some thoughts on this weekend, where we have the Huskies, Friars and Wildcats all within 2 points of each other,(if UNH can win up at Gutterson on Wednesday).......I'm hoping that the Huskies can pull the W, since UNH has had a better year vs. Huskies than the Friars, and I would rather the Friars get buried since A) I like roasted friars, and 2) my dog Bear has some Husky in him....logical to the max!

Re: 2009-2010 New Hampshire Wildcats Season

It will be a big week for the Wildcats, for sure. Long bus trip mid-week to play a team that is coming off a good weekend, followed by BU at home Saturday, and they've proven formidible against us on any sheet, then hop in the bus for the CT Huskies, who are on an undeniable roll right now.

Regardless of what UNH does as masters of their own fate, these games have the potential to create not a ripple, but a tsunami, in Hockey East.

LAVOIE SELECTED HOCKEY EAST'S BAUER ROOKIE OF THE MONTH FOR JANUARY

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Kristina Lavoie (Fonthill, Ontario), a freshman forward on the fourth-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was named Bauer Rookie of the Month for January by Hockey East on Tuesday. Lavoie received the same award for the month of December.

Lavoie scored a goal in all six January games – each of which was a Hockey East league game – and finished with totals of seven goals and one assist for eight points; those numbers led UNH in goals and tied for the lead in points. Lavoie’s other numbers included a team-best .269 shooting percentage, one game-winning goal, one power-play goal and a +5 rating; furthermore, two of her goals gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

In four games vs. nationally-ranked teams, she tallied six points on five goals and an assist. On Jan. 8 vs. nationally-ranked Northeastern University at Fenway Park, Lavoie broke a 3-3 tie with 5:30 remaining in the game and secured the victory on an empty-net goal with 15 seconds to play.

This marked Lavoie’s second league award in as many days and fourth overall this season. She was honored Monday as Hockey East’s Bauer Rookie of the Week, an honor previously bestowed upon her Jan. 11. Lavoie also received the aforementioned Rookie of the Month for December. She is the first player to earn back-to-back Rookie of the Month awards since UNH’s Jenn Wakefield did so in February and March of 2008.

Well...not quite the auspicious start of the week for the Wildcats. Tough 2-1 loss tonight up at the Gutt...huge win for Vermont's young program. Let's hope that the ladies put it behind them on that long trek back to Durham, and that they come out swinging on Saturday against BU.
