12 Year Olds Crying - 2015 LLWS

Generic Catchy Message
That time of year again.

Last year's big stories were Mo'ne Davis and the Chicago team, though the latter was found to have cheated by grabbing players from other districts.

This year it will be the Uganda team. Three years ago they were here and went 1-2, but baseball in Uganda was only a few years old. After a couple more years of development, this year's team rolled through European-African qualifiers with a combined score of 64-2. They're currently up 4-1 on the Dominican Republic in the 5th.

With yesterday rained out there will be eight first round games today. Through awful scheduling Japan and Taiwan will play in the first round.

Hasn't every US winning team been found guilty of this? Trumbull did but got off on a technicality, Toms River did it, and I thought the Hawaiian winner was a complete cluster*****.

On the international side Taiwan used to cheat all the time (which is why we first rigged the tourney to force an American finalist and then, when even that wasn't good enough, started cheating ourselves). And at least one team was stripped of its title (from the Philippines). I don't recall whether the Chicago team was allowed to keep the trophy after they were shown to have been cheating.

A lot of teams can get in trouble because they pre-select the teams based on who plays with the coach, or travel teams are formed to play for a couple years before the kids become of LL age to "train", and if you weren't on that team to begin with, tough luck.

Little League is hilarious when you compare the public image presented on TV to how it really is. People love to rag on other youth sports like hockey, soccer, or football but they can't hold a candle to LL.

I didn't know this would be a spoiler thread....guess I can take those off the DVR. :D

My brother-in-law has coached teams in AZ for the last decade. The stories are insane. As usual, it's the adults who are the a-holes; the kids have it rubbed off on them a little, but for the most part they're still just kids.

When I was 12 I had one of the greatest guys I'll ever know as my regular season coach. Retired guy, loved baseball, spent almost all his free time around the league getting sponsors, keeping concessions stocked, etc. The kind of guy who teaches you more about life than baseball, even when he had a helluva lot of baseball knowledge. After our last game, when we lost in the semis of the team tournament, there were a few kids crying, some others looking down, and he told us something that I still try to remind myself of if I start to get too worked up over a game: "There are people around the world who don't have homes. There are folks overseas being killed in wars. We just spent an entire summer together having fun playing baseball, that doesn't sound like such a bad deal to me."

That same year I made the all-star team, and had one of the worst coaches I would ever have. Stereotypical parent coach who only cares about his kid. Gamesmanship at every step. After walks he would have the pitcher throw the ball to first to try to catch the runner off guard. He taught softball base running techniques rather than early level baseball techniques because of the length of the base paths. When we got knocked out after four games I wasn't even mad because he had zapped the fun out of the game.

Canada-Mexico scoreless in the bottom of the 6th. Nice to see Canada with the stereotypical fat kid pitcher.

Re: 12 Year Olds Crying - 2015 LLWS

Mexico wins 1-0.

The Canadian pitcher went 5 innings flat and struck out 16. Did not pitch the 6th, presumably due to LL pitch limits.

Re: 12 Year Olds Crying - 2015 LLWS

Pennsylvania and California were the big hitters yesterday. Each put up over 15.

All elimination games today.

Didn't see it posted yet, but Chinese Taipei has a kid by the name of Wei Hung Chou. I chuckled.

It appears the Canadians should stick to hockey.

Re: 12 Year Olds Crying - 2015 LLWS

Canada, Dominican Republic, Missouri, and Oregon are all eliminated.

Tomorrow is all winner's bracket games, so no one will be going home. Uganda plays Venezuela at 11am.
