12/5/09 - Saturday hockey - Scores, rants, and upsets

Re: 12/5/09 - Saturday hockey - Scores, rants, and upsets

Point kills off the 5x3 and Superior draws a penalty during the ensuing 5x4. Now 4x4.

Re: 12/5/09 - Saturday hockey - Scores, rants, and upsets

Superior takes a minor with about :30 to play. Point still up 2-1.

Re: 12/5/09 - Saturday hockey - Scores, rants, and upsets

The key to this goal was Rubeniuk losing his stick, and not being able to poke it away when there was a scramble in the crease.

The key to the play was that none of the Genny D-men gave up their sticks to the goalie. If he had a stick, he might have been able to poke the puck away before it even got in the net.

On the next play in Genny's zone, the D-men gave up their stick when the goalie lost it.

And the love continues between Superior and Stevens Point. Benches cleared and I'm not there...:(

It's about time they get some conference points. It sounds like they still march to the box too much, but were able to kill most of them. There won't be too many more points if they continue the undisciplined play...

Re: 12/5/09 - Saturday hockey - Scores, rants, and upsets

I think they're still fishing the puck out of their own net in Adrian.

Re: 12/5/09 - Saturday hockey - Scores, rants, and upsets

Much better effort from the Knights tonite controlling the play in much of the 1st and 3rd periods. Much more physical play,,,,
Player of the game honors to: "JoJo" Ryd with two goals (his second double of the season).
Great way to cap off the first half of the season for SNC:) :) :)

Pete:

Could not agree more on the effort by SNC. Much more determined and more physical tonight. Ryd may be the "player of the game" but Allen deserves "best effort" for the weekend. He was a bull in the offensive zone. A much deserved break for SNC and hopefully a great second half to come.:)

Kris Wilson just scored a goal...waived off for some reason...Radio announcers are confused about it..

they haven't said a score since i started listening

It was a goal, no doubt. But it was waived off because the geriatric goal judge didn't turn on the light, and apparently none of the refs saw the puck cross the line.

However, Point deserved to win tonight. They outplayed Superior. It was a good game.

Re: 12/5/09 - Saturday hockey - Scores, rants, and upsets

The goal judges have been nothing but stellar in Superior.

Sure, as I am biased towards UWS (I admit that upfront), but it was a goal-I was on the end of the rink where it happened. In fact, afterward, a UWSP fan, standing at the rink behind the net, came over and said it was in. It was a terrible blown call.

That said, I think that Point outplayed them in the first period, but after that, it was pretty even-even play and evenly bad refing for both sides.

The puck was just in under the upper right corner, but it never touched the net and barely cleared the line. In defense of the goal judge, he wouldn't have been able to tell if the puck fully crossed the line. That sort of goal is completely the on-ice officials responsibility, but it was a bang-bang play, real fast... I was in the corner right on the goal line of the side the puck entered the goal, the perfect spot to see it. If the ref would've been on my side instead of the opposite side, he probably would have seen it as well.

Mind you this happened in the second period, if UWS wants to fall back on that and not consider their blown 5x3 and ensuing 5x4 in the third, so be it.

And nice cheap shot by the UWS player at the end of the game that led to the on ice rumble....

Yeah, I kept waiting for the one of the defensemen to give up his stick. The puck was in the zone a long time before the crease scramble that resulted in a goal.
