Seriously. I haven't heard one Democrat say anything, anything, about Jared getting $2 billion from the Saudis. but you can't blink without hearing something about how corrupt Hunter Biden is.
Democrats need to learn how to play hardball.
The Democrats need to use the T word every day. The Dumpies committed treason. Dump is a traitor. Dump and his cronies should be in prison. This is the moment the Founders warned us about -- it is a Seldon Crisis of this democracy. I do not want to hear about setting precedents for future behavior by the other side. The other side are criminals who will not respect any law or institution. We are not obligated to treat them with a scintilla of respect.
It is theoretically possible for a non-traitorous non-criminal conservative movement to exist in the United States, parallel with our democracy. The Republicans were that from, at least, the 1920s through the 1950s. The Federalists managed it from the 1790s through the 1810s. While conservatism appeals to the worst, not all conservatives are awful, and sometimes the conservative mental hammock is a nice rest for short intervals during which progress is digested by the slower members of society.
But reaction and authoritarianism have no place, and conservatism always is on the cusp of toppling over into that. Since Reagan (or maybe Goldwater) pushed the GOP over the cliff it has been a steady fall into fascism, and we do not need to heed anybody still identifying with that party. Like Putin, they need to be contained, defeated, indicted, convicted, and sentenced, and we need to use every legal tool to accomplish this or
we'll be the Ukrainians fighting ethnic cleansing before long.
Fat, comfortable people don't want to hear it, but it is them or us. So either we use every legal tool now or we wind up playing out some stupid dystopian YA movie about a brave band of tired but resilient dissenters in a techno-fascist future.
