I have been bartending for 16 years. Prices have gone up almost every year. (at my current second job a quarter per year at least) No one has stopped drinking because of it. The whole thing is a farce.

The proof is in the gig economy. People are way overpaying for groceries and meals and tipping still. People will pay. If you go out of business because you have to pay a living wage you have no purpose being in business anyways. Someone will replace you. My Republican buddy who runs a small business isnt even whining about a possible raise and that is right up his alley to do.

The people that are whining are the large corporations (meat packers) with large immigrant and black workforces.

Yeah well after the pimpslapping Jon Oliver gave them last week they might do well to shut up and stay out of the spotlight for a bit ;^)

No, you need 60 to end debate (cloture). Schumer can put anything he wants on the floor, he's the chief of police.

I'm saying put it on the floor and get S&M to vote on cloture. It's something and it leads naturally back to the obvious solution of sh-tcanning the filibuster completely, thus obviating reconciliation.

Biden is against overruling the Parliamentarian and honestly so am I. Plus without the minimum wage it will almost assuredly pass as that was the only real objection Manchin and Sinema had. Get that passed and make the minimum wage the Midterm issue since it is obviously something the majority of people support.

If Manchin or Sinema make a stink over the bill without the wage hike then send AOC to burn them to the ground. I don't think they will mind you just saying. COVID Relief is too important to worry about ruffling some feathers.

The long term goal is to get the Senate to 52...then we can nuke the filibuster and really have some fun.

Yep, there is no reason to overreach over something that won't pass anyways even with reconciliation. BUT once you get COVID passed then you put the heat on S&M (that is pretty awesome) by putting things to a vote their constituents want and are overwhelmingly popular nationwide. The ones dx named are great examples though I would add the VRA. If they want to stand on their principles they can, but they put themselves at risk over it. Make their fear of not being re-elected be about what they AREN'T voting for not what they are. Sooner or later there will be something their people want so badly (that the GOP won't support) that they will reconsider their stance.

I know it shouldn't bother me so much, but hearing some of comments from Rand toward Rachel Levine and Republicans on the new Equality Act...
My heart hurts. My existence shouldn't be political. I just want to listen to Sara Bareilles, hold my cat, and eat ice cream without wondering what the government will try to do to my community next.
