so the Senate GQP are about to kill a VA bill - that they openly supported - because of this. My goodness how childish is that?

They don't support the troops, they support the war machine.

Unfortunately, neither will likely make a lick of difference in public opinion. Democrats could announce they created a work-free society starting January 1st, 2023, and if inflation stayed stubborn- hell, gas prices stayed high- they’d lose the House and likely the Senate. We know, as people who pay attention to politics, how important such bills are, but we’re voting Democratic already. Either way, if both become law, they’re solid shifts in the right direction, albeit on a far smaller scale than most of us wanted.

This one I don't agree with. Part of the reason the media believes and pumps the Red Wave nonsense (even when local polling contradicts the points they make) is because the non-hardcore politico types were disenfranchised with the Dems getting literally nothing done despite having control. All of the promises made, and everyone of them torpedoed, often by friendly fire. The Dems looked exactly like the "Dems in Disarray" the media loves so much.

Plus...take a look at the name of the bill. It was called that for a reason. The Dems finally messaged correctly. Come November they can say "we passed all these things, and put forth real legislation to fight high gas prices and reduce inflation". They get the needed headline...which is all a lot of voters read anyways.

What is funny is I was scrolling Twitter when the deal struck and some politico I follow retweeted someone who a week ago when word of negotiations leaked out basically predicted all of this. Said they would call it something to do with Inflation, and that Manchin would find a way to vote for it (even got the wording of the press release right) because it wasn't BBB. He can sell "Inflation Reduction" back home, he can't sell what was promised in BBB. Since most of his constituents will never read the bill they don't really care so he gets the cool headline and gets to be the hero instead of the most reviled man around. (and the Dems get BBB with a different name)

I dont think Manchin trolled McConnell, I think he got sick of being as hated as the Nazis are. I think Schumer gave him an out and he was smart enough to take it. If he sticks to it it was an easy decision. Like the Capital One commercial with Charles Barkley.

I sincerely hope you’re right about all of it. Holding the Senate would be huge.

I am very cynical but I have never truly worried about The Senate. Now I would honestly bet on it cause the Senate GOP is committing seppuku on live TV. They are voting against vets, they are gonna blow up codifying Gay Marriage despite their own voters supporting it and it is a guarantee they will blow up the Electoral Count Reform Act. Manchin's deal has put them on tilt which never happens. If this was the Dems the headlines would be everywhere about the Disarray.

They had set themselves up nicely with good headlines and easy talking points about how they did the moderate work to offset Bidens ultra left agenda and protect elections...and in one fell swoop doused it in gas and set it on fire for the world to see. Hell they are arguing against themselves...they look like Boris Spassky when he realized he had no way to beat Fischer in Iceland.

Will it last...who knows.

Susan Collins says the codifying Same Sex Marriage Bill is now doomed because of the "stunt" Dems pulled in getting the Anti-Inflation Bill passed.

Un-fucking-believable.

And, Senate Republicans dragged the VA Burn Pit bill out back and shot it before it could even be debated.

That fucking cunt. Talk about Stunts- shall someone show her what her own stunts have been?

Repub wackos have gotten high on their own supply. They actually believe that most people in the US think like they do.

Explains the higher gas prices.

The average GOP primary voter prefers candidates like Herschel Walker, Mehmet Oz, and Donald Trump. Maybe not most, but a solid percentage do think like them.

Gotta love this logic. Lowering prescription costs means gays can’t marry and veterans don’t get healthcare.

Yes, and the average GQP primary voter is a small percentage of the American public as a whole.

But that small percentage thinks they, and their views on issues, reflects the views of that entire American population.

Well, when 75,000,000 people vote for one of those crazy people, it just goes to show that, for whatever reason, the average GOP primary member isn’t that far off from the average American voter. Would 75,000,000 have voted for Bernie?

I had a trumper tell me they were the “silent majority” as they believe their own made up press. I told him Hillary had millions more votes and he said nuh uh, she only got 40k more votes. Such an absolute moron

It's interesting how Mitch gets his "moderates" to do the dirty work all the time. Pat Toomey is at the core of killing the Burn Pit bill.
