Esteemed republican senator hard at work

“Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) got into a heated spat with a Chinese media official on Twitter on Thursday. Some of the back and forth included the below tweets:

Sen. Marsha Blackburn: "China has a 5,000 year history of cheating and stealing. Some things will never change..."
Chen Weihua, chief Washington correspondent of the state-owned China Daily: "This is the most racist and ignorant US Senator I have seen. A lifetime *****."”

Meh. Marsha earned the response she got (and undoubtedly the one she wanted, so that she could deflect by playing the sexism card), but this feels like patting a bad faith state actor on the back to own the knucks.
 
Apparently the House is voting on a bill to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level.

I kind of want this to go to the Senate. I think it can be used as a weapon against R Senators in some races in 2022 (Murkowski would be a good example).

Its smart. People are seeing that the idea is popular even in GOP lead states. (like SoDak and Arizona) And the amount of tax money you can make off it can fund a LOT of projects. I heard ( ;^) ) that in Illinois when you buy it the tax is based on the amount of THC in the product. (and they are bringing in lots of cash) I also heard in Vegas they make a killing off of the sales with some of the dispensaries looking like massive malls. It is a huge industry.

This is something the Dems should embrace...it is an issue that has broad appeal to the voters AND in reality you gotta think Wall Street is keen on it as well. There is a lot of money out there that cannot be put in banks because of the Federal ban. Credit cards (I heard) aren't allowed for these reasons. There is billions being left on the table and since we know post COVID recovery coud be slow, the time is right to find other ways to get money back into the system.

Not to mention it is a massive step in criminal justice reform.

It will also be fun to see the Right get in a lather one more time. The criminalization of marijuana has always been about criminalizing perceived Left-ish freakazoids and blacks. But now everybody on the planet smokes pot except a handful of anal retentive Mormons and fundies. Sure, die on that hill, Nazis. That'll go well for you.

I have heard that for people who suffer from insomnia it is the best sleep they ever get. I have also heard that for those who have types of anxiety and conditions that require medication (who don't like how they feel on those types of drugs) it helps them immensely.

If alcohol can be legal...so can weed.

Oh man the cops will be pizzed though. Hard to justify "Stop and Frisk" if you can't use dime bags as a means to blackmail people into snitching.
 
I've only smoked weed twice. The first time I really, really liked it -- it was like being in a warm bath. The second time I got nothing at all. I haven't bothered with a third time for 19 years.

D-mn skippy I'm trying Heroin on my deathbed, though. I have had codeine after surgery and good god I love it.

Just keep passing clean, simple, single-issue bills and dropping them on the senate. Doesn’t matter if they are impactful (bonus if they are). You’re trying to rebrand Republicans as the party of sand-in-the-engine and against the popular opinions.

Keep it simple. Work with the White House to get through controversial parts like what to do with existing convictions. Decriminalize weed by statute. Biden pardons all low-level, nonviolent offenders.

Do the same for COVID UBI. $600/wk for every MWC (including Fresno). Senate doesn’t want to pass it? Club them with it.

national minimum wage $15. That’s it. No tips provisions, or anything else. Force it.

Equal rights amendment.

Full lgbtq+ As a protected class.

you aren’t going to get single payer with this method. Nor should you. These are just tools in that fight. “Wel, if republicans won’t even legalize weed, what else are they wrong on?” Maybe we can peel away some of the NORML 3rd party idiots.

Not only can those dispensaries not use banks, their employees can't technically deposit their paycheck (paycash?) into the bank as it's sourced from a federally illegal entity. The same goes for any company that works with them, like the storehouses acting as de facto banks, handling the cash for the various retailers. A lot of work right now is done in the gray markets, and it's tough for a lot of people. Those employees have a hard time with credit checks, thus getting loans, mortgages, etc., or simply getting into an apartment. And you can be dang sure that the states are salivating to know what their real tax receipts should be from those all-cash places.
