Re: 116th Congress: Episode 1 - Trial by Fire

It's what they do. The Olds in the DNC still have the same "not in the face!" cowardice that has brought us to this pass. The sooner they croak the better.

It's the world we live in. The quote in my signature line is from the first half of the twentieth century, and things haven't gotten better. People and organizations go out of their way searching for reasons to feel aggrieved or play the victim.

It's one of the things I like about some of the younger elected officials -- their willingness to speak out, and when criticized for it, their willingness to double down. I don't necessarily think they are right on all of the things that they are speaking out on, and as I've posted before, I don't think it will help them as they seek assistance from others in getting their legislative initiatives passed, but at least they have the courage to say what they think and then refuse to back down.

Everyone should have them, but frankly he may be right. Hear me out...

First, we need to be careful with everyone must do X. Even if it benefits everyone, it does cross a line of personal rights. In the case of a death, today someone must give their permission to inject themself. In a case of making them mandatory, there would be some major wrongful death lawsuits. Additionally, someone could tamper with mandatory vaccinations for other purposes...knowing our current lawmakers, it could even be approved. It starts with good intentions and could result in scenarios out of some bad sci fi movie.

Yes, personal liberty only matters for the kids whose lunatic parents don’t want vaccines you see...

Measles is just a gateway vaccine.... ::rolleyes::

If you don't vaccinate your kids, they don't get to go to school or day care. That's the stick. Fark off with religious exemptions or any other exemptions.

And if your unvaccinated kid gets sick and then infects others, you're responsible for everyone else's medical and funeral bills.

The numbers are...81% agree that not vaccinating increases the risk for other kids but 46% say parents should have the right to decide whether their children get vaccinated; Zogby May 2018. But good. At least, you've thought about how this might work.

So how many say 'no way' and make a stand? Frankly, many parents really don't appreciate education to begin with, don't care if their children go to school, and are more than happy to 'home school' them. Never mind, that many forced home schools would result in no education whatsoever. Maybe we say 'screw em'. But what if 15-20% of the US gets little or no education? I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that outcome is worse than what we have today.

I'm supportive of the concept, but I expect that the 'cure' of mandated vaccines is 'worse than the disease' for the country.

Let me make sure I’m understanding what you’re saying. You think the negatives of mandated vaccines will outweigh the actual diseases?

Thought my post was clear. But at the risk of a probable troll avalanche...

This initiative reminds me doing something like going to war. It sounds like a straightforward undertaking with a clear cut end...but you invade Iraq, establish a new government that doesn't really work, the locals hate your occupation, and in the end there are enormously far reaching costs and collateral damage. Once you start, you can't go back.

Because 46% of parents believe they should have the right to determine whether their child should have a vaccination or not...perhaps a quarter of the population will outright rufuse and a good chunk of them will resist to the bitter end. Take away carrots like education and they'll happily walk...you've just created millions of anti government martyrs. The economic costs of the vaccinations would be almost nothing. The costs of any enforcement would be significant. And if there are any outcomes tied to American education resulting from furious parents...the costs will be enormous.

Doubt you could do both, personally I'd much sooner address the gun epidemic.
