Re: 116th Congress: Episode 1 - Trial by Fire
Exactly. The problem with ALL of her comments isnt the subject, it is how she says it. She needs to hire a PR person to help her learn how to word things better so she doesnt come off as a crackpot or worse.
Someone who understands how perception works would have told her why the first half of her comment is fine, but the second half is going way too far. "We can't be only upset with Trump. ... His policies are bad, but many of the people who came before him also had really bad policies. They just were more polished than he was." That is great and we will all agree with that. Every President in my lifetime has blood on his hands and this needs to end. It is disingenuous to just rip Trump or Dubya for it. She stops there she gets a standing O from everyone. Except she continues:
"And that's not what we should be looking for anymore. We don't want anybody to get away with murder because they are polished. We want to recognize the actual policies that are behind the pretty face and the smile." Now everyone who still likes Obama turns on you and you look like a crackpot. She is like a character on Veep only she is self aware so it looks even worse.
Criticism is good and warranted, attacking arguably the most popular person in your own Party is just bad politics and will turn off many of the people who voted for you as they were also Obama voters.
I think it's a question of what purpose she serves for the greater party. The Democratic party already has billions of careful politically correct centrists. Not every Democrat has to be that, if for no other reason than not ever Democrat is like that.
People don't seem to have a problem distinguishing between Republican bomb throwers and establishment leaders. Why should EVERY Democrat have to be a clone of Nancy Pelosi, or worry about what Ma and Pa Kettle think? It's the equivalent of every Republican having to worry about what Ivy League sociology professors think before they open their mouths.
There has always been a double standard in this country: the right can have certifiably insane people, but the left has to police their own to ensure not a single sound is emitted that would frighten the Great Unwashed. It's like Hayes Code era movies, where every movie had to be pitched to people of insane religious sensibilities because ohmygod we can't afford to offend one single Iowa brood sow.
No. Goodbye to all that. We need diversity in our opinions and our rhetoric and our plans as well as our demography. The establishment DNC will still look like Rover, have no fear of that. But we are not going to pretend we
all lack passion and intelligence and drive. Some of us are speaking to others of us -- we are not speaking to the center. Just as the right has done to great success.
When Omar and AOC announce for President then they'll need to take the Great Meh into consideration. Until then, no, f-ck them. We are not their prisoners. They do not own this country anymore. They are just another niche group.
The pale of skin and sluggish of thought are no longer the default.
