Although we may be 100% Roy Moore free...we may not be Joe Arpaio free. He's running in AZ.

The Dumpies are a gift that keeps on giving. The Dems just need a reasonable candidate.

Re: 115th Congress - Still 100% Roy Moore Free

To me the GOP started becoming the party of old white baby boomers during the impeachment debacle. I knew a few moderate die hard Goopers who couldn't figure out why they were taking it that far. Didn't help that half the GOP Congress were perverts either picking up men in airport bathrooms, keeping 2nd families or out of wedlock children out of site while they preached Moral Majority BS, or who were paying for their mistresses abortions while proclaiming to be 100% pro-life.

Bush II Iraq War ended the pretense that you needed Republicans in charge of foreign policy.

So basically you're left with racists and bigots longing for a whiter nation who've found their champion in Chump. Once the baby boomers sail off into sunset, so will this current incarnation of the GOP.

There were signs pointing that direction as early as the 60s. Nixon made it explicit with the Southern Strategy. Archie Bunker would have been brought up a Democrat but by the 70s he was a Republican. Then it really took off with Reagan's dog whistles. By the time Newt's idiots polished off the last sane Republicans the GOP was already comfortably reactionary, racist, and sexist.

Re: 115th Congress - Still 100% Roy Moore Free

If Republicans keep running extreme candidates, Democrats are going to keep stealing solid red seats from them.
Please proceed, farkwits.

Don't know if she'd want back in, especially given what happened with Flake, but do you think Gabby Giffords would be interested?

I doubt it. The temptation for some Dumpy to finish the job to please his lord and master would be too risky.

Dems already have their candidate in Arizona. No need to muck up the primaries.

Not to be morbid, but if McCain has to call it quits, that would scramble things a bit...

You are referring of course to Craig Brittain, owner and co-founder of the revenge porn website IsAnybodyDown?

No, but I had no idea mookie was putting his money behind a candidate!

@nytimes: Breaking News: In the first decision of its kind, federal judges threw out North Carolina’s congressional map, saying it was drawn to favor Republicans

The last paragraph has me worried. District maps should be the responsibility of the legislature, not the courts.

Fodder for Dems v Wisconsin and GOP v Maryland??

If it ends blatant partisan gerrymandering everywhere in the US, I'm in favor of it. I live in a "leans R" district as is, represented by a former insurance salesman from Rochester who keeps his office an hour away in Brighton (comfortably centered in his voter stronghold), so what do I have to lose? They rigged our district a bit, too though, lumping Dem-leaning MSU voters and us NE Oakland County country clubbers in with a wide swath of fairly red, rural country, so...

Re: 115th Congress - Still 100% Roy Moore Free

The last paragraph has me worried.

I'm sure it does.

The solution is party-blind districting. It will not benefit either party in principle, it will only increase democracy and make more seats vulnerable. But vulnerable seats will decrease the power of the rich to own representatives, and that does ultimately erode the systemic advantage currently enjoyed by incumbents who sell out.

This is similar to the extension of the Bill of Rights to the states via the 14th amendment. Too many people erroneously think the Constitution is permission for the states to f-ck electoral minorities and deny them their rights. We fought a war over how wrong that is and the baddies lost. They're going to lose again, here, eventually, though it may take a while because they've managed to stack SCOTUS for 40 years. But it'll come, and the longer you guys hold the shift back the more disruptive an earthquake it will be.

Yeah, but if you had your way, the Courts wouldn't decide anything. So your opinion on what should be decided by the courts deserves minimal weight.

Is Lord of the Flies something a guy should reread?
