115th Congress: On Permanent Vacation

Re: 115th Congress: On Permanent Vacation

I'm now fairly convinced we'll witness the end of the US as a world superpower in my lifetime. It won't happen overnight, but this year has been the start of it. We're going to be somewhere around 1960/70s UK level by the time I hit 50, except instead of letting our empire go independent, we'll be outright ceding overseas territories and bases to Jhina to pay our debts, as our working poor class grows larger with every passing year. Time to pick up that Assimil Mandarin course.

Should be a great era for rock n' roll again, though.

Good luck Beijing, you're gonna need it.

I had two high school teachers who knew Mandarin, because "It's going to be the language of business and economy soon." This was 17 to 20 years ago.

That’s not going to fly with constituents

Are you kidding? Why do you think these clowns keep getting elected? No one wants to believe they are dumb enough to fall for it but they are. There are people I know, lefties, who think Erik Paulsen is a pragmatic number cruncher who votes based on his thoughts not his party.

The people of Maine will see a bunch of ads about how she saved ObamaCare and how she was cutting taxes to protect them and was screwed by Paul Ryan (you know one of the evil ones unlike her the hero!!!) about SALT and fixing the issues with ending the individual mandate. They wont do a simple google search and will keep her around. The populace is stupid and that is why nothing ever changes.

It's never my Republican Congresscritter's fault. S/he's one of the good, "moderate" ones. It's always the fault of those super nutty ones from South like Cruz and Paul!

Yeah? Well it's the "moderate" ones that are the most dangerous.

all the morons that vote for her because she is a "moderate" will have forgotten about this by 2020 when she is up for reelection, and she has 40% of the vote locked up no matter what (unless some there is some nut job libertarian independent running against her), so she doesn't need that many people from the center to win. Maybe she'll win in 50s instead of 68% like last time.

I think it will be almost impossible to get rid of her unless we can have a spoiler 3rd party candidate that appeals to the right and the Greens don't run a candidate (they always do in Maine).

Green party keeps getting funded by the right too.

I can't speak to Susan Collins' particular situation but I think we're reaching the point where few incumbents are safe. Now that doesn't necessarily mean a seat will switch to the opposite party but as most of the country continues to suffer I wouldn't make any long term plans if I'd already been in office for awhile.

We'll know next year. Incumbency has many weapons to protect itself.

If ever a party deserved to lose every single Member in its caucus, in the nomination or in the general, it's the 115th's GOP. Every one of them should be banned for life.

My guess is over 90% of those who run will be renominated, and over 90% of those renominated will be re-elected.

The people who follow and understand politics no longer have any say in elections. It is up to $$$ and the vast raft of lofos they manipulate.

Congress voting on reciprocity for conceal carry today. CHIP program meanwhile is just about finished. Very interesting.

What was once Paul Ryan's wet dream of gutting the poor and middle class, could be a full-body orgasm for him before Christmas.

Remember when Paul Ryan said giving kids free lunches at school hurt them? He must have a raging boner at getting rid of CHIP while trying to roll back abortion rights

If there's a God that POS is coming back as a poor black girl.

To be fair, Paul has no idea this destroys the middle class. His ideology is that this will actually foster a middle class. He has no idea he's just a dupe of the 1%. He thinks he's a f-kcing hero.

Paul's not evil. He's just stupid.

The Kochs are evil, not stupid. The know exactly what they are doing -- they have been force feeding dimwits like Paul a tidal wave of von Mises and Rand since birth to turn them into willing servants. They know this does nothing but create an ultra-privileged ruling class with an ocean of slaves to exploit. That's the whole plan. They took "The Road to Serfdom" to be aspirational, not a warning.

Even Dump probably has a deep animal instinct what this does, and he does it because it benefits him. So in this respect Dump is actually significantly more witting than all the libertarians that 2nd tier Engineering schools have churned out for the last thirty years. Think about that. To be below Dump... in any category of intelligence and knowledge.

No Paul is evil. He knows what this will do he just doesnt care and never has. Dont give him a pass like you do so many other right leaning people.

They arent dupes, they havent been fooled and they arent ignorant...they know what they are saying and doing and they dont care. They have never had to really struggle but they make ****ed sure to judge those that do.

Guess what. In the most unsurprising thing I've seen all year Minnesota is running a deficit. Why? Cause Republicans took over both houses and had to have their Ayn Rand orgasm. It also appears to be related to not planning ahead on Health Care because they're not receiving their CHIP payments from the FEDS. Who's surprised by that? Not me. Any idiot with 3 brain cells knew Health Care was going to implode once the Orange Baboon took office. But, not our beloved Republicans.

Also so wonderful to know how Paulsen, Jason Lewis, and everyone's favorite Tom Emmer all support the Federal Tax Cut. The Tax Cut that will devastate everyone in Minnesota because we itemize and we take our State and Local Tax Deduction.

Thanks GOP. God Bless you for your commitment to the people.

I don't agree. I think Paul is the typical ideologue. He knows he's right and so any pain he causes is a price he's willing to pay. Of course, it helps a lot that the pain is borne by others.

Paul is Lenin, not Stalin. Not evil, just way too sure.
