115th Congress: On Permanent Vacation

Re: 115th Congress: On Permanent Vacation

Jon Huntsman used to be is this liberal democrat's idea of what a Republican should be, but I don't think I'd apply the label of moderate to him (but I guess someone that believes in climate change is a liberal Republican) I disagreed with him on plenty, but I could respect him and he seemed like he could be reasoned with and would be willing to compromise. He worked in both the W. Bush and Obama administrations and wrote Obama “You are a remarkable leader – and it has been a great honor getting to know you.” He was too liberal for the GOP presidential primary, and never cracked the low single digits. I haven't been following him, so I don't know if he sold his soul to the devil to be named ambassador to Russia by Trump though...

He also endorsed Trump extremely early on, before pulling back that endorsement, before deciding to be Trump's puppet in Russia.

It doesn't help the U.S. if decent people don't serve in Trump's administration. From what I know he is very decent and good on him for taking the job.

Re: 115th Congress: On Permanent Vacation

There's being a decent human being, and then there's changing course whenever the political winds shift, just to stay employed. Huntsman may be reasonably intelligent, but IMO, he is ultimately the latter.

that's a huge problem. almost every member of the GOP hopped on the Trump Train, no matter how deplorable he is. Now they are backing Moore the child molester because "he isn't a Democrat"

Re: 115th Congress: On Permanent Vacation

There was a guy doing an intricate toe tapping routine in the men's bathroom here at the office. We're in Minneapolis, so I just hope it wasn't yet another senator from out of town.

Re: 115th Congress: On Permanent Vacation

This is classic. The moron Collins was on Meet the Press this weekend. I watched. I also posted about it. A lot. Anyway her argument was that she believed the tax cuts would pay for themselves. When Chuck Todd pointed out that no study has been published that says that she said talk to a couple of economists and rattled off their names.

Look what I find today.

But GOP officials nevertheless want to believe their assumptions about trickle-down tax cuts are not only correct, but also bolstered by experts. On “Meet the Press” this past weekend, Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) made the bizarre argument that tax cuts lead to growth, which leads to revenue, which “actually lowers the debt.” When NBC’s Chuck Todd pressed her to point to any evidence to support her assumptions, she eventually replied:

“Well, talk to economists like Glenn Hubbard and Larry Lindsey and Douglas Holtz-Eakin, who used to be head of the [Congressional Budget Office].”

That was probably not the right thing to say.

The Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin spoke to two of the three conservative economists Collins mentioned – Glenn Hubbard and Douglas Holtz-Eakin – and neither one believes the Republican tax plan pays for itself through revenue created by increased economic growth.

Collins’ communications director told the Post, “Senator Collins did not mean to state definitively that the tax cut would pay for itself – I can see why you would think that reading the [“Meet the Press”] transcript, and, to be clear, she does believe that the cuts could potentially pay for themselves.”

Who elected this clown?

MAJOR UPDATE. IT GETS BETTER:

House Speaker Paul Ryan is making sure everyone knows that he was not a party to any of McConnell's negotiations with Collins and he wants no part of the promises supposedly made. He is making absolutely no commitment to bringing up the legislation stabilizing Obamacare that she conditioned her vote on.

That is classic. She got played.

Play with scorpions, you're going to drown.

Re: 115th Congress: On Permanent Vacation

She didnt get played...she knew what would happen. The House would never support stabilizing ObamaCare it would die in Conference Committee if the Senate tried.

She is banking that her constituents are too stupid to realize she played them.

So, not only did she lie about the economists but she also lied about that? That's a lot of lying. How do these people sleep at night?

On very soft, very expensive sheets. And like a baby.

Re: 115th Congress: On Permanent Vacation

So, they're all sociopaths?

There is something wrong with someone who runs for office. That something becomes larger commensurate with the office she runs for.

It may not be sociopathology -- it may be a savior complex like Obama or narcissism like Dump or EARNDADDYSRESPECT like C+ Augustus. But something's broken in there and the fly wheel is spinning out of control. Somethin' aint right.

I doubt it. She knew she would get nothing, but needed something she could go back to her constituents with and say, "See, I tried, but our leadership lied to us."

Yes. Part of playing the game is playing your constituents.
