That's a different club. CCCC is on Connecticut Ave. Congressional is off River Road.

I know.

I've never seen CCCC. Congressional is a standing monument to the maxim that money does not guarantee taste.

St. Ambrose in Woodbury, MN. It's a very expensive church, filled with new money, but it's ****ing horrible looking.

Looks like a rink. All that's missing are the Gopher banners:

The school tries to let in a few deplorables now and again so people don't think we're all elitist snobs. ;)

Um, one word I have never thought of in conjunction with BU is "elitist." :p

That's not even all of it. They've since updated it to add in a point-of-perspective crucified Whitey Jesus. Unless you're sitting in the very first row, or up on that dais, Jesus is floating in the air, completely independent of the cross. The two objects hang about 15 feet from each other, with the cross hanging higher than Jesus.

Good question. Sometimes Members will pair off on junkets if they're not going to affect a vote. So, if you are your buddy of the opposite party are going to cancel each other's votes on the Federal Nose Picking Bill, you both call in as "meeting with constituents" and spend the day knocking the ball around at Pinehurst.

But of course their benefits and pensions are pro-rated based on this, right.

...Right?

So, the plan is working to perfection then! I know I'm doing my part to project a humble image.

Catholic?

Post V2 architecture. They lost their minds.

What's the gold dancer on the left?

Jesus, before he was paired/unpaired with the cross, and relocated between the altar and the choir/band area to the rear of the church. They have a lot of new money, and they do not spend it wisely or with any sort of good taste. There's an extremely gaudy baptismal fount not shown in that pic, too.

Isnt there a religion thread you could discuss this in?

It was a natural progression, and doesn't really apply to religion. It's more about using lots of money to make bad decorating tastes. :D

I think the point is that church has nothing to do with religion.

It is tough to try to do new things -- it's always easy to criticize. But for example the Iceleandic rocketship church is awesome. All it needs is to equip Jesus with friggin' lasers.

Look at this church in Arkansas. I think it's the most divinely inspired building I have ever seen. My spirituality would feel very comfortable there.

So, it can be done. Just don't expect the people who run your local chamber of commerce or real estate development association to give you anything but gaudy consumerist shart.

Kinda plain on the inside though. Darn boring Lutherans.
