Re: 115th Congress - Fantastik! Try to remember we vote in November.

Dan Ross (R-Lakeland FL) announces his retirement.

Here's an off the wall thought - the GOP abdicates the House to the D in the 2018 midterms who go further left united in their hate of tD. Call it mid February 2019, the House impeaches tD.

Around May, the Senate fails to convict having secured a secret agreement that tD is one and done.

The American public fed up with the shenanigans of the progressive House, vote the GOP back into the majority in 2020 with a D president.

The biggest issue in this theory is thinking that anything involving Donald Trump can have anything secret.

You have fun believing in conspiracy theories.

No conspiracy. I'm just not going to believe like many on here already do that the Blue Wave is coming. I'll believe it when I see it. Also, if the Blue Wave does net the Presidency in 2020 great, but if it's just a Red Wave after that then all this Blue Wave talk is just more BS that doesn't make a difference.

So then just quit. Jesus I thought your sport takes were depressing...

Love to. Unfortunately circumstances means I'm stuck like many others in the current population of the United States. And don't think there aren't a bunch of us that would like to just get up and leave.

What would constitute a Blue Wave?

Dem magic number to gain the House: 24

Median opposition gain in midterms since 1946: 22.

Let's just worry about taking the House in November. That's a big goal. Not a Blue Wave. But a big goal.

What I want is for them to take the Oval Office in 2020 then Hold the House in 2022. Then we'll know there's real change happening. So, we won't know for a while.

Pretty fun to watch Rachel destroy Paul Ryan last night by bringing up over and over again how the entire premise of his rise in GOP politics was as a deficit hawk. And now he's leaving with the biggest deficit in our history.

What she failed to point out (at least as long as I watched) is he did accomplish the GOP's core goal. To give all the money to the rich. The debt over the next ten years is supposed to rise 13 trillion. Every dime of that 13 trillion is going to the 1%.

Congratulations Mr. Ryan. You may not have achieved your deficit dreams but Ayn Rand is smiling down on you today. Go home and enjoy your family after a job well done.

"THE men whom the people ought to choose to represent them are too busy to take the jobs. But the politician is waiting for it. He’s the pestilence of modern times. What we should try to do is make politics as local as possible. Keep the politicians near enough to kick them. The villagers who met under the village tree could also hang their politicians to the tree. It is terrible to contemplate how few politicians are hanged."

~G.K. Chesterton: 'Cleveland Press' interview, March 1, 1921.

See, if the little weasel really is a true believer, he failed miserably on 2 out of the 3. He didn't end entitlements nor balance the budget. He basically made the same deal Goopers have been making since Reagan which is funding tax cuts for the rich via the Treasury borrowing money. I never understood why the Beltway Bobs of the national media went gaga over this guy every time he batted his eyes at them and whipped out his...charts. ;)

I think the 1 is all that really matters. If you're a 1%er your payroll taxes for SS and Medicare are nothing. The debt is meaningless. If you're a 1%er you just declare bankruptcy and move on. You want that 13 trillion and you got it. The rest of us are screwed.

I think this tweet sums it up perfectly:

Paul Ryan will retire at 48 with full lifetime benefits, having been on the 'government dole' his entire life. On the way home probably stopping by Burger King where the 75 year old lady has to wipe down tables to make ends meet. Congre$$ makes the laws regarding Congressional pensions. That law has been in place for a long time.

At least he'll have a while to enjoy it. The D leadership is a bit long in the tooth.

That depends Scooby - consider this. Recent tax cut was by far most unpopular tax cut in history. People realize even if they're Chump supporters that this did nothing for them while lining the pockets of billionaire GOP donors. That's why the party quickly abandoned running ads on it in the recent PA special election. Ryan bailed for a simple reason: his party is about to lose the House and then coupled in a few years with a Dem Congress and Prez those tax cuts will get reversed because the public is on board with that. Recall that the last 2 Dem Presidents ran on tax hikes for the rich and both won re-election.

Once tax hiking on the rich becomes politically safe to do, then the horse is out of the barn. Maybe not Kepler style where tax rates hit 90%, but why stop at raising Chump's taxes back up to 40% when you can push them closer to 50% above an obscene level of earnings (anything over 10M a year lets say). Weasel Paul Ryan does not want to be there when this happens. Better to ditch and line up that Koch Bros lobbyist job and make millions while blaming the GOP from the outside for allowing this to happen on boring Sunday talk shows.

He could refuse it all if he was true to his so-called principles or try to change the law. Didn't see much mention of that out of the little weasel.
