I saw that. She was attacked for that tweet by Laura Ingraham. Laura is pure Drip Slime.

People still take the Reich wing's dumb old biddies (Ingraham, Coulter, Malkin) seriously? If stupid is what you want, at least put on Tomi Lahren before she prematurely turns into a wrinklebag.

4 Deputies Didnt Go Inside

When Coral Springs police officers arrived at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14 in the midst of the school shooting crisis, many officers were surprised to find not only that Broward County Sheriff's Deputy Scot Peterson, the armed school resource officer, had not entered the building, but that three other Broward County Sheriff's deputies were also outside the school and had not entered, Coral Springs sources tell CNN. The deputies had their pistols drawn and were behind their vehicles, the sources said, and not one of them had gone into the school.

But lets arm teachers...cause that is the solution to the problem.

I am very happy that the students are hardlining a stance. I'm sad that this event is what it took to make them have a voice.

A friendly acquaintance of mine is a cop. He's a young guy I used to play hockey with. In 2015 he and one other police officer did not hesitate at all to enter a super market where a gunman was firing at anything that moved. He had already shot 2 people dead. The two arrived literally at the same time coming in separate cars from separate directions and entered the building immediately. They located the guy -- not necessarily an easy task if you think about the typical supermarket, and this particular one is quite large actually -- and returned fire, bringing him down and saving lives. When you wear a badge, carry a gun and are sworn to protect and serve, this is your only option. That one cop stood outside that high school and waited is sad. But that guy might just be a bed pooping coward. That four stayed out there should actually be criminal.

My friendly acquaintance and his partner are rare breeds. Cops who deserves to wear a badge and honor the notion of "protect and serve."

By my count, that is two officers. Good to go. 2 > 1.

Based on some of your recent posts, did you mean it was better for 2 cops to confront the nutjob with a gun I posted about? While that is obviously true, my friend would have gone in alone. He knew that by waiting even seconds, more people could have been hurt or killed. As has also been noted, cops now are trained to enter a building as soon as they arrive in active shooter situations. They are not to wait for 1 or 2 or 3 more cops to arrive and are certainly not trained to wait for special tactical teams. This is absolutely the correct training. The first cop on the scene at Parkland should have used his best judgement about where to enter, and he should have gone in. Alone or not. This is just more of the same from our hero cops out there. Like the Vegas cops who waited for a farking hour after the shooting stopped before confronting an already dead killer. Real bravery there. My friend is an exceptionally brave person. And sadly, he is proving to be an exception even among law enforcement.

And here's more proof of the hypocrisy of the right:
When trump "speaks his mind" his moronic supporters eat it up and ask for seconds. When our young people do it, they are disrespectful brats. If anything, I think some of them are being TOO respectful.

It is better to have a 2 on 1 situation. I am new to the newer training, if that is indeed factual. (Yes, I am wary, with all the "fake news" floating about; please understand that). I have had 2 relatives, with a combined 71 years on the force, and know that you don't go alone in a situation like this. That's just a death sentence and doesn't help the current situation.

Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: Reset The Calendar Again

BS I don't care. I take great offense at the accusation of subscribing to a murderous ideology. I don't want more deaths. To say otherwise really eats at me. I respected Kepler, even if we disagreed. To accuse me of that...that's just wrong. That is not who I am. Not one bit. I posted an idea, one that is obviously not popular, and was shot down, okay, that's fine. To use those types of accusations is NOT the way to disagree with the idea.

Brent - with all due respect you can't support the idea of arming teachers without (even if unintentionally) it making you complicit in the idea it puts teachers and students further into harms way - and increasing the likelihood some will end up being murdered. I won't attack you in this regard, but if you're going to stick the belief arming teachers is a good idea then you have to own up to the probability such an endeavor would result in the murders of people in our classrooms.

Jeezuz Brent. I didn't think you'd gone this far.

Trump does understand a few things. One of them is confirmation bias. He throws things out there like "fake news" which most of us see as ridiculous but which are rescue floats to those who already want to believe. And they grab onto them when they are drowning in logic.

Yes, this, so much this. Dump understands that the Dumpies want to believe him. They crawl away from facts like The Thing from a hot needle. So he gives them the comfort of his outlandish and outrageous lies and states them matter of factly to welcome them home.

Hate Radio does this well. The masters of it are the televangelists.

Brent, you do have a murderous ideology. That doesn't make you murderous -- you don't appear to be in any way cavalier about the deaths of these kids the way, say, Drew is. But you can't run away from the consequences of the ideas you espouse. You are accountable for the change you would make in the world, and you would turn our schools in abattoirs.

Your idea is ludicrous and terrifying and insane. In a world in which money did not dominate politics it would be thrown out before even getting to the Op Ed Nutter stage. It is only given oxygen because guys like LaPierre have sales figures they need to hit.

I know that is not your intent, but it is where this proposal leads.

Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: Reset The Calendar Again

So the dominant law and order discussion the past two or three years has been criminal or negligent cop shootings, and much of the criticism of PDs has been inadequate training. They train to use deadly force, and they practice with guns all the time, but it is a widely held belief that they need to be much better trained not only on race issues but on the use of deadly force in emergency situations.

Now we want to put guns on teachers, who are educated and trained in matters that have absolutely nothing to do with guns. And while we complain about how poorly qualified and trained teachers are not meeting teaching standards, we are now going to train them to be experts in the use of deadly force in emergency situations?

Sounds like wise policy to me.

This basically wraps it up for the arm the teachers argument. Even if it weren't an unhealthy and insane idea anyway, even five seconds' consideration of the practical consequences is enough to dismiss it from our consciousness (I hope) forever.

The solution is to limit access to guns. Ever other country on earth has figured this out. The only difference in the US is the gun lobby has the government by the balls.

I genuinely mean fake news, not Trump's version. There's a lot of bullsh* out there now on social media from everyone. "Facts" using memes, or left- or right-leaning articles that cherry pick or make up stats, etc. I mean, do you really believe anything that Flaggy posts? ;)

Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: Reset The Calendar Again

And the teachers being armed was an idea. It was then voted down by you all. I'm not sticking to it. It's not going to happen. So let's move forward.

I don't think you should feel at all apologetic about putting an idea out there. We jump on ideas from time to time, but that is just our personal reactions to them. You're a gopher fan, which is, in Trump's words, BAD!!!, but I'd still gladly have a beer and share some hockey stories with you at a rink somewhere sometime. Verbal sparring is OK, and it's healthy for all of us. Just give it back when you have a mind to. You'll be wrong, but WTH. :)
