Believing hurtful things makes you an idiot. But, by definition, we are not in control of our beliefs -- they come to us from mentors and environment and autobiography. Acting hurtfully makes you a monster and you're done.

So I can be friends with idiots and I just stay away from the derp topics. I can't be friends with a monster but so far I've literally only had to dismiss one friend in my whole life for that. The vast, vast majority of people, even the idiots, will not harm people. That instinct is strong.

Things are changing. Companies are starting to realize the money from the NRA is going to be peanuts compared to lost business on this one.

Up to us to keep that coming. We need a boycott list and we need to stick to it. And that needs to include politicians.

Always hard when family is part of the 33%. I have very close family like that. I will not listen to them and we do not talk politics.

My dad would make you look like a Trumper. Not kidding. My mom is middle of the road, my brother is a bit farther to the right than I am. Needless to say, we do NOT talk politics if we can help it.

I have a lot of leeway in who I'm friends with. I have a number of friends who voted for Trump. I have friends that think the restrictions on even automatic weapons should be relaxed somewhat. But I can't respect a person if they believe Sandy Hook or this Florida shooting was a fake. I won't associate myself with that kind of wretched person.

My grandfather had all sorts of awards from World War II. I believe there was a silver star, and a purple heart for sure. He never ever ever talked about it. Ever. He's long since past and I still know nothing about it.

His men were going to rescue him, and he drew his pistol and pointed at his own men and said he would shoot the first man that tried to come get him, because it was certain death anyway. He held his pistol on them until he bled out.

FTR, I would be against bonuses for armed teachers. That's some straight up BS if we were to do that. Shouldn't punish teachers who don't want to arm themselves. I do like that this medium is open to unconventional ideas, no matter how bizarre. To paraphrase, "We have to deal with it for what it is, not what we want it to be." I wish more people would realize this.

It's why the only logical conclusion is it brings us closer to the elimination of public education. Which is a goal of the right and the current head of the Department of Education.

What if, as a parent, you don't want your kid to be in a classroom with an armed teacher? And it's a smaller school so you can't just switch to a different class? Are you just supposed to homeschool your kids?
