That's actually not true -- x% of the population doesn't equal y% of the state delegations. Ask blacks. Hell, ask women.

If we can winnow the GOP from 50% of the electorate down to that indigestible 33% base, they effectively disappear in the Senate. That would be a one third loss of their voting power across the board. In how many states did they win their statewide races by 30 points? Maybe Utah and Mississippi?

No one is saying they bullied him, assnut.

The line is "Those talking about how we should have not ostracized him? You didn’t know this kid, OK? We did.". That doesn't say that they ostracized him. That is responding to the people whose immediate assumption is that they ostracized him, and thus maybe sorta had it coming, even though they knew nothing about the people in the situation; the whole point is Cruz was like that without being ostracized, which the people, you know, in the actual ****ing school with him would be aware of.

Learn to ****ing read.

You'll get fewer than 13 states (meaning 38 or more for 75%) to erase one of the original Ten Amendments? Um ... really*?


*The 'squishy' (EC based) map does not apply in this conversation as Article V is state-based so might as well use the geographic one.

You're using a map where the GOP still has 50% of the electorate. The hypothesis is that drops to 33%. The point is if that occurs you won't hold 33% of the Senate, you'll probably hold fewer than 30 seats seats. So if you're looking for the Senate to stop an Amendment under those conditions, you're looking in the wrong place.

It actually can happen. It's happened before.

On the 2nd, the Amendment would never be to wholly get rid of the 2nd Amendment -- the Bill of Rights is sacrosanct and we don't want a precedent for the knucks ever getting their Inner Fascist on and messing with the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th. It would be to restore the plain meaning of the 2nd Amendment in an age with automatic weapons and a standing army.

The electorate in toto may (may, someday) approach your 33% ... but ...

Which of the red states in the map I linked are dropping to no longer majority GOP (or pro Amendment 2 in this case) in an Article V event?

For these Amendments? I think many of them. You guys will have AL, AK, ID, KS, NE, ND, SD, UT, WY until the sun winks out. All the rest of the states are within 10 points, but let's give you AR, MS and WV on the general principle of eternal herpa-derpism. That's 12 states; 24 Senators. If we're talking a 33% GOP electorate, I'm not sure you'll hold many more.

And remember we're talking massive state house movements and concurrent gerrymandering, so instead of getting far more Members than you deserve you'll be getting far fewer.

It's not pretty. You probably don't want to become one-third of the electorate because that results in far less than one-third of power.

Why not these Amendment proposals? I'm guessing a lot of those would get steam in a lot of the country.

Sorry, I always screw up at least one of Alaska, Arkansas, and Alabama.

I dropped OK and MT after looking at the partisanship split. It's not nearly as bad as I thought. OK I get because there's a city growing and, presumably, literacy, but MT surprises me. Must be all those writers in Missoula.
