0 Days Since Last Shooting: But the Second Amendment!

Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: But the Second Amendment!

I'd rather see laws that target the gun users, not the guns themselves, at least at this point in time. As dx said, idiot gun owners are a problem. So, let's fix that part first.

I get there is a nuanced perspective in there somewhere, but you guys might as well just say your against all forms of gun control. You guys do realize that you are who the gun lobby leans on to kill any solution to our guns problem.

And yes, gun control bills are dead at MN Capitol. Again.

That is incorrect. Again, I've listed things I want changed. How is that not stricter gun control?

And what is (not) happening in MN for gun laws is embarrassing.

Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: But the Second Amendment!

It's not just the AR-15, so let's stop harping on that particular model. It's any firearm that meets the 1994 definition of an assault weapon. That is, semi-auto in combination with 2 or more of the following features - collapsible stock (probably should add bump stocks), pistol grip, large/detachable magazine, flash suppressor, barrel shroud, grenade launcher, or bayonet.

Now I'll grant you, the bayonet and barrel shroud are largely cosmetic and could be dropped as regulated features. Similarly, getting your hands on a grenade as a civilian probably has very low odds as-is (at least, I would hope).

Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: But the Second Amendment!

The shroud is there to prevent burns after shooting a number of rounds. I’ve burned myself on my shotgun before after just two rounds of trap.

It helps the shooter fire more rounds without having to worry about severe burns.

Focusing on 'the gun users, not the guns themselves, at least at this point in time' causes confusion and that leads to obstruction. Lawmakers whose goals are to stop gun control will claim they doing the above and supporting those who desire it...until everything settles down. Then they free up access to guns.

Can we start with an agreement that guns on city streets are a bad thing?

Illegal guns on the street, obviously. I'm not really gung-ho about open carry. Concealed carry is alright, IMO. And just to be clear, this is for responsible owners.

Yeti dropped their relationship with the NRA. In return, gun humpers are blowing up their coolers or shooting holes in them. Apparently, this is a "yeah, that will show them liberals!"

What are you showing me, other than you're a whiny little brat?

That kind of stuff always confused me. You are destroying something you already paid money for. It's stupid. I can understand not buying something because reasons, but YOU ALREADY PAID FOR IT.

Mookie would figure a better tack would be to go to a store and carry fifty of those coolers up to the counter. Have the clerk ring them up. When it’s time to pay say “oh wait, yeti dumped the nra. Don’t want them anymore” and just leave.

Let the company hear about it from retailers.

....or of course waste your money

Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: But the Second Amendment!

From the Watertown Daily Times.

Bill A10428 was introduced in the state Assembly by Linda B. Rosenthal, D-Manhattan, on April 20.

If approved, it would prohibit public schools from offering any kind of “marksmanship/shooting programs” that would let students test the accuracy, precision and speed of any number of “ranged weapons.” Along with guns and airguns, crossbows and bows would be included in the bill’s definition of a “ranged weapon.”

Assemblywoman Rosenthal said that she felt children “should have limited exposure to guns, because they’re not a normal, everyday piece of equipment.”

Assemblywoman Rosenthal’s colleagues in Northern New York said they feel that the bill would actually hurt gun safety efforts.

I actually agree with the opinion that it would hurt gun safety efforts. Education about said weapons is necessary. Learn the dangers and safety precautions about the weapons. Don't be ignorant about the weapons. Ignorance is a huge problem concerning weapons. Not saying the classes are mandatory, but they should be offered.

Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown, new ep tonight. Season premiere. He visits West Virginia. Great show, love it, and tonight he touches on gun culture. IMO, well balanced so far, well done. Highly recommend.

The NRA Convention will be a gun-free zone.

No, it isn't an article in the Onion.

I'm confused. Wouldn't a room full of NRA members with guns of all types be the safest room in existence?

Wrong. There will be plenty of people with guns there.

Yeah, the secret service to protect Mike Pence.

But the "commoners" will have to voluntarily surrender their weapons at the door to get in, even though the NRA says that guns should be everywhere for safety.

When you have the secret service protecting the room there is little to worry about. I doubt anyone attending will have any issue with it.

How will any of them know whose ***** is bigger?

But you need to carry guns because the police can't keep you safe.
