New Bill Aims To Limit Teams To 20% International Players

WI has 27% of it's originating from outside the US. Once Canada becomes the 51st State, all will be well. ;) 😅

Limiting young people's opportunities who are here legally is extremely un-American. That being said, it won't destroy the quality of women's hockey. The men's game is in the same boat, probably worse, and that makes me think the NHL will get involved to some extent with the CHL players now being allowed into the NCAA schools. I think somehow cooler heads will prevail. These dorks can't even decide to ditch daylight savings, which an idea supported by at least 64% of the country.

Your link is to some car ad.

I tried three times to fix it and it just keeps linking to that car ad, even with the correct URL...I don't get it...so thanks for posting the correct link.

I personally don't hate it. Not sure why lobbying for more foreign players makes sense. The US women's college game doesn't need the international players(at more than 20% of the roster) to be first rate.

I wouldn't get too worked up over this. The bill has only just this week been introduced, so there has been no votes or even 'work' done on it in any committee. Beyond that, the House just went on recess until after the November elections, so nothing is going to happen to it, with it until then. And if I'm not mistaken, it would "die" at the end of this Congress at the end of December, and need to be re-introduced when the new session of Congress commences in January.

This bill will only affect about 15% of the international players. Currently it's 65% US, 32% Canadian and 3% European (approximately). The sport it's really going to affect is golf, which is not a huge money maker, so all is good. I support this bill. Build the sport within the US.

Passed in the Senate and sent on to the House. It will most likely die there without a vote due to several reasons. Only chance would be if they surpass normal procedures by temporily suspending normal rules and bring it right to the floor for a vote.

What passed the Senate is the "Protect College Sports Act". The 20% limit is the "Team USA Act". Thirty seconds of research, I don't see anything suggesting that "Team USA" has been incorporated into "Protect...". So I think we're talking about two different things here.

This would be a disaster for many ECAC, Hockey East and other non WCHA teams that rely primarily on Canadian players as they can’t compete as effectively for good US players against WI, MN or OSU. My team has 17 of 21 players listed as international for 83%. I thought managing NIL payments was a nightmare but watching US players soon go North to play in the soon to be much more competitive Canadian college leagues will be very depressing.

Just reviewed the proposed college sports legislation up for vote shortly and as Timothy A above suggests the team USA Act is not part of it despite what I said yesterday…That’s not to say it’s not soon to follow but I was encouraged to read it’s not particularly widely supported at this time..,
