Important note on the Asian Confederation statement: It’s not unanimous like UEFA and CONCACAF. There’s definitely some split there. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some split between the Gulf states.
 
A Senior Adviser to Infantino, and former USSF President, Carlos Cordeiro just quit his role over the proposal and released this statement:
"As a senior adviser to the FIFA president, a former banker, and a lifelong football fan, I cannot stand by while FIFA considers selling a stake in the World Cup. Let me be clear: I had no involvement in this proposal, and I oppose it unequivocally. It is a bad deal for FIFA's Member Associations, a bad deal for football, and a bad deal for the long-term future of the game."

Edit: Cordeiro is also a former Goldman Sachs executive and was a member of Dumps World Cup task force. So exactly the kind of guy you’d expect to create this type of deal, and he’s vocally opposed to it.

What does Mexico get out of this? They’re already #1/#2 in CONCACAF depending on the year and the most popular domestic league. Don’t really see how a cash infusion is supposed to help their current issues.

Bit of spitballing here but it’s possible that Televisa, the rather large media company from Mexico that also owns Univision, Liga MX club Club America and wields massive influence over the Mexican Football Federation FMF, is involved with the sell off scam, or at least wants to be involved.

The FMF doesn’t even so much as blink without approval from Televisa so it’s certainly possible that they’re involved.

More like some are definitely involved (looks towards Qatar and Saudi Arabia), some are definitely with the Europeans (looks towards South Korea and Japan), and some are definitely waiting to be bought out (looks towards Australia).
 
Infantino engineered the 2026 World Cup to attract investors. Everything from hydration breaks, reversing red cards for CR7 and Balogun, longer halftime shows, ticket prices and more were done to show private investors that the World Cup would be an opportunity to make money, not a sporting event for the benefit of the fans.
 
Pochettino reups as USMNT Manager through 2030. It’ll be interesting to see if

a) He actually stays that long.

b) Can actually have good performances in CONCACAF. Because his previous performances were underwhelming.

If Copa America goes sideways in '28, he's gone before the World Cup Qualification begins.
