USCHO Music: From Queen to The Beatles to Lady Gaga

This Pride Month, I want to thank Shania Twain.

"Man, I Feel Like A Woman" probably led to a bunch of trans awakenings in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

With driving so often, I've been starting with 1 song and letting Tidal take it from there.
I just tried this with "Wicked Garden" and got (not joking)...

Bush
Candlebox
Seven Mary Three

First dud in awhile. Jeez Tidal, do you just think I like every band that Xeroxed grunge and sold it back to the unsuspecting masses until we checked their origin stories?

I mean Candlebox are OK, but "Far Behind" is an 80s power ballad that just happened to hit in 93/94. It even starts in G like many classic power ballads do.

I was never really into Bush. Nirvana, but corporate and with a British accent.

Sarcasm is dead.

I'm not a huge fan of Bush, but I read some articles through the years and Rossdale gets an unfair bad rap. Rossdale is an actual artist and student of music who taught himself how to play guitar. Read up on his and their history before you write him off. Just a snippet:

Born in London on October 30, 1967, Rossdale had an unconventional early life. Interestingly, he did not speak until he was four years old, often relying on his sister Soraya to communicate for him.

His formative years shifted drastically at age 11 when his parents divorced. His mother (whose heritage is Scottish) moved away, and his father (a doctor of Russian Jewish descent) took over his upbringing. The absence of his mother led to profound emotional turmoil. To cope, Rossdale became a highly aggressive and troubled student while seeking comfort in literature and the booming British punk rock scene of the 1970s.

He was educated at the prestigious, independent Westminster School, but frequently bunked off and struggled to fit in among his peers. He credits artists like the Sex Pistols and X-Ray Spex with giving him a voice and allowing him to channel his inner frustration into music. By his late teens, he began diving headfirst into the music industry, eventually forming the early bands that would pave the way for the creation of the multi-platinum rock band Bush in 1992

Going to see Rush in Chicago in July. I can’t wait! This will be my 10th time seeing them and I really am looking forward to seeing Anika Nilles kick ass!

Geddy’s voice sounds better than it has in about 20 years.

I also hope Aimee Mann can make the show, I love her on “Time Stand Still” and her solo work (and ‘Til Tuesday) is really good so I hope all Rush fans by her records too!

I have no idea who Louis Tomlinson is, but I learned that he’s performing at the Armory in Minneapolis tonight. I didn’t even know there was a concert there tonight until I went by the building on my way into work. At 7:30 this morning, a bunch of teeny-boppers were camped out for the buildings doors to open. That’s not a good omen for quality music.
