That was several years ago, before Delta decided that selling access to their clubs to anyone with a decent credit score was more important than trying to maintain a reasonably pleasant, child-free atmosphere. There's a reason people call them Sky Pubs now.

Almost makes me long for the days when club catering outside of JFK and ATL usually consisted of crackers, cheese, snack mix, Biscoff, and a dirty salad bar.

yeah, the soup now is so good, but it's not worth it.

I was in AMS lounge a few months ago and really thought the KLM staff would crack down, but no. The Lounge Lizards of the olden days are gone.
 
Must be worse in the U.S. The lounges in SE Asia are generally very noise free. Although now that I think about it, MSP and LAX last year were also fairly serene. I probably just got lucky.

The more my wife tries to expand her friend group, the more she realizes a lot of people don't share our values. For example, people who distinguish between predators who groom & bang 8 year-olds vs. predators who groom & bang 17 year-olds. To both of us, there is no distinction - a predator is a predator. But to a lot of people, if the victim has a set of tits or their balls have dropped, it's somehow "different".
 
It's a spectrum of emotional maturity.

Partly it's nurture. There are 33-year olds who are still groomed -- home schooled Christians who haven't differentiated themselves from their parents' authoritarian derp. And I'm sure there are 15-year olds who are more emotionally mature than any of us ever will be. A girl who lives in the favela has seen more of life at 15 than you or I ever will. She would be grooming us.

Partly it's nature. Brains develop along a path with measurable milestones in the capacity of the substrate. But that math is against what you have to work with overall. Most of the gen pop never develops a mature brain, and should be kept in a perpetual legal status of adolescence or livestock.

Until we have testing that shows somebody's true EQ, the delta is what matters. Please don't fuck people less than 2/3rds your age. 20/16 is okay, 20/13 is not. 42/30 is okay, 42/26 is not.

More seriously, though, my better half has represented people accused of all manner of crimes over the years, from public intoxication to murder and everything in between. The murderers typically aren't the monsters; most of them have been people who made one really, really bad decision, normally with the assistance of mind-altering substances. The career criminals accused of dealing, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, etc. tend to be the worst. Put another way, the seriousness of the crime doesn't necessarily directly correlate with the character of the person.

On the sex crimes front (which are considered especially heinous), there really is typically a difference between the 2 scenarios. It's not that one statutory rape is ok, but that typically (yes, not always, but typically) the 17-year-old is being banged by a 20-something whose brain still hasn't fully setlled down while the 8-year-old is being diddled by a relative. If the 17-year old and the 20-something just wait a year, it's fine (at least legally). Nothing will ever make the other scenario fine.
