Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Man, quite the turnover. Not gonna lie, kind of disappointed that Barr seems to have personality conflicts with the highest skilled players on the team. Seeing Marquez and Poirier leaving is a bummer. It appears as though he is overly upset when the highest skilled players skilled guys don’t give a full 200 foot effort and having a selfless attitude. He’s essentially been harping on them and trying to make them conform. But in today’s environment they just leave. The teams that have been going to frozen fours regularly have coaches that have handled their skilled babies, so Barr needs to adapt.

Right, but Maine can't spend that entire $500,000 this year (unless he made a repeating gift, which, cool). I'd assume that's going to be an endowment of some sort and a percentage will be available year to year.

Who gets to ultimately decide how major gifts are spent; are terms negotiated? Is there a formula and awarding process that filters to certain programs or budgets? How specific can strings be that the donor attaches? Also with NIL, could someone make a gift to an entity that just pays players (or could even pay players in the portal to come), and how quickly could it go through a compliance process to become offered/contracted to a player?

I can’t wait for Scholle at center to stop, it’s been a waste and missed opportunity from the start
I know I'm not the only one around here who thinks Scholle plays better on his off-wing but I'd be okay moving him to LW as well, based on the projected players coming in.

I'll bang the drum to move Fowler to center permanently. 48.9% is passable and made for an 11% jump from 24/25. That'll play as L2/L3 center for sure and I'm with Fowler's work ethic he'll improve if that's his role.

He deserved it before going into semester 2
Both Fowler and Russel brought the intensity needed every night this season. They both lead by example when it comes to executing Barr Hockey and they are both what Maine Hockey is all about: Tough, physical and play in the trenches. I dare say that Fowler is borderline psychotic out there (I mean that in the best way possible).

Fowler should have the C and Russel should have an A.
